The World Ends With You

Strengths: Great Graphics, Unique Touch Screen Gameplay, Great Story

Weakness: Dual Screen Fighting can take some time to get used to

The World Ends With You is another great RPG from Square Enix and this time it takes place in Modern Day Japan which is a nice change from their usual Final Fantasy universe. The game has a lot to do like collecting different pins and outfits for your characters and the unique use of the DS touch screen for the battles suits this game well. If you are a fan of the more recent Square Enix action...

The World Ends With You

Strengths: Beautiful Graphics, Voice Acting, Innovative Battling

Weakness: Pricey

Square-Enix delivers with this fun and wacky action RPG. The game has a lot of character and provides many innovative elements I have never seen before in other games. For example, the battles have you controlling both DS screens at one time--providing a fast pace and frantic style rarely seen in RPGs. The whole style of the game is very urban, from the character designs to the music, which has...

Its a Wonderful Game

Strengths: Interesting story and gameplay

Weakness: The touch screen gets scratch easily with this game

The story is what kept me going into the game. If any game has the same setup of clothes, pins and general gaming experience, this is the best. Unique gaming experiences adds the Action RPG element to it.

Amusing for a while, but...

Strengths: Great cut scenes, fresh ideas for game play, intriguing characters

Weakness: Frustrating fighting, drawn out conversations, no way to skip cut scenes, yen system flawed

This game caught my attention with it's vibrant graphics and new game play. The pin system was a fresh idea and works well. The only flaws are rather important. The fighting at first is overly simple, with a series of slashing, scratching, and dashing, but quickly becomes overly complicated as the stylus movement for dash is the same as many of the attacks. Over all a fun game, but be ready to...

The World Ends With You

Strengths: Great storyline and graphics, innovative use of dual screen

Weakness: Limited number of saves (1 per cartridge)

In The World Ends With You, you play Neku Sakabara, a teenager in Tokyo who plays 'The Reapers' Game' which gives him missions to complete within an allotted time. Failure means that he will be wiped from existence. You must join forces with other characters and together battle the hoards of enemies who attack you. The game makes fantastic use of the DS's dual screens, having a combat active on...

The World Ends With You

Strengths: A unique and refreshing RPG out of left field and one of the best games on the DS

Weakness: None, except that it may be brutally difficult for some players

The World Ends With You is a unique DS role playing game that may just be one of the best games on the system. It stands apart from many RPGs (on any system) for several reasons. The first is that it is not set in some mythical kingdom of elves and trolls, but in modern day Japan. But there's more to it than that. While exploring the streets of Tokyo you don't simply look in barrels for items or...

Hip, Fun

Strengths: Music, unique action RPG elements.

Weakness: Doesn't feel awesome.

I want to love this game, but it falls short of really pulling me in. The main character is a cliche, quiet loner, offset by a perky female supporting character. They must work together despite being polar opposites. It's a decent dynamic, but all too common. The designs are also a bit anorexic, even for my anime-favored tastes. Other than that, the characters are colorful and hip, matched by the...

Bring on da Noise; Watch out for da Reapers

Strengths: An excellent, unique J-RPG game, high-quality at all levels exploring themes of time and survival

Weakness: None unless you dislike coolness

Tetsuya Nomura (see FF7 + Kingdom Hearts) continues to deliver games with miles-ahead-of-the-curve innovation, creative departures from the JRPG standards which are so easy for other developers to fall prey to (myriad monsters, dungeons, and a bratty princess tossed-in-the-mix). This game is no different; it explores the modern urban J-pop youth culture that American audiences may know vaguely...

Little. Yellow. Different.

Strengths: Fresh take on the JRPG genre.

Weakness: Nothing, really.

The World Ends With You is easily one of the freshest takes on the Japanese RPG genre in years. TWEWY boasts excellent production values, nifty battles, unique music, and an engaging story and characters. In addition, while the plot is linear, there is enough customization that you can play it the way that you want. Highly recommended.

Something new from Square Enix

Strengths: Addicting combat

Weakness: Repetition in environments

The World Ends With You is a fantastic new title from the makers of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. TWEWY stands as one of the best RPGs of the year, not least of which due to its unique subsystems. If you're looking for an extremely immersive, complex, and enjoyable RPG that will keep you coming back for more (over 20 hours worth), TWEWY is likely for you.
