After securing an apartment building overcome with flesh-eating zombies, two Philadelphia area SWAT team members, Peter (Ken Foree) and Roger (Scott Reiniger), flee to a television station, where they escape in the station's helicopter with Francine (Gaylen Ross) and Stephen (David Emge), two station employees. Seeking refuge from the zombies and the ensuing hysteria, they land on top of a Pittsburgh area shopping mall, despite the fact that the undead seem to be flocking there. What begins as a stop for supplies becomes a longer stay as the four become embroiled in a futile war within the mall to keep their flesh to themselves and remain alive. The film's relentlessly disturbing and innovative gore effects are one reason to see DAWN OF THE DEAD, but those who can stomach the endless barrage of blood and gnarled zombie faces will be rewarded--and possibly surprised--by what the film says about human nature and life within a consumer-based culture. Any aficionado of horror is likely to place the film high on their list of revered cinema. Dawn of the Dead [DVD Boxset] [Ultimate Edition]I saw this when it first came out at the Somerville Drive-In in NJ (which, needless to say, no longer exists), and had a great, rip-roarin' time of it (some of which I attribute to the movie itself; some of which I attribute to the enormous quantity of booze me and my cronies snuck in with us). Romero claimed it had a social message about our consumer culture (the setting for the action is an...

Dawn of the Dead [DVD Boxset] [Ultimate Edition]I liked this even better than "Night of the Living Dead", but it's not getting a perfect score from me for the mere fact that it should have been a HELL of a lot gorier than it was. It's a zombie movie, for cripesake. It IS an excellant movie, but it needed more red stuff. 4 and a half stars

Dawn Of The DeadStrengths: one of the best horror movies ever Weakness: none I think Dawn Of The Dead is one of the best horror movies I have ever watched. I think the special effects are excellent for the year it was made. I think this movie is George A. Romero's masterpiece!!! I highly recommend this movie to any horror movie fan.

The Greatest Horror Movie Ever!Strengths: The four main characters, Peter Washington (Ken Foree), Fran (Gaylen Ross), Steven (David Emge) Roger (Scott Reineger) Weakness: Wasn't long enough! I originally saw this movie in 1979. It was great. But now with this collection, you get to see some deleted scenes from the American theatrical release and also commentaries from the four main characters of the movie as well as George Romero himself. Ken Foree portrayed the take charge, kick butt character of Peter Washington. He was awesome in this role. Also on the Documentary DVD, Ken takes a...

Dawn of the Dead [DVD Boxset] [Ultimate Edition]How can you do better than this one?! The "re-make" was ok... But hey! c'mon! This one was made by the Spanish kid from da Bronx! Again... No-one can do better than Mr. Romero! Take it from me... I make horror films in PA! No-one can ever top BIG "G"! If they would just let Big "G" make the films he wants to and can make, we'd all be happy! "F" Hollywood!

"Ultimate" it is. Anchor Bay Entertainment's Ultimate Edition DVD release of George A. Romero's classic "Dawn of the Dead" is packed with three versions of the film (with exquisite picture and sound) and loads of extras and documentaries.
