Reviews for Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2

DBZ fans only

Strengths: + graphics + upgradable characters + unlockable characters + real voice actors from the show

Weakness: - No story mode - Lackluster character roster - no real point in upgrading - very repetitive - too easy - little replay value

Dragonball Z Budokai 2 is a game only die hard DBZ fans will love. There is no story mode, instead players are treated to a very boring board game, Dragon World. Dragon World tries to tell the story of Dragonball but fails miserably. Fighting is also boring in this game. You could win a fight just by doing the same combo over and over. This makes upgrading your character worthless. But if you are a Dragonball fan, you should give this game a shot. Since it is a Greatest Hit it might just be worth your while.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2

Strengths: Another perfect reproduction of the DBZ universe!

Weakness: Dragon World gameplay isn't as good as a story mode.

If you aren't a huge fan of the DBZ universe, stop reading and buy something else. If you're a fan, this game is paradise. I pretty much finished Budokai 1 (except the hard Hercule legend) and it's fun to play finally with Buu and fusion. I'm having a great time uncovering all of the secrets (which I won't spoil). It's such a blast with graphics that look just like the cartoon and the same voice actors. I hope to finish it before Budokai 3 is released later this year.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2

Strengths: More destructable enviroments. Return of English voice actors/actresses. 11 new playable characters including all the forms of Buu. New fusions INCLUDING 2 never before seen "if they" fusions. Continue

Weakness: Some-what 2-D graphics.

Continue. The two "if they" fusions are Goku and Hercule and then Tien and Yamcha. Cell can now absorb enemies. The Ki Blast mechanism is like DBZGT: Final Bout (but 1000000000000000000000xs better). There are many other modes to choose. Let's say Goku unleashes a Kamehamaha wave and Cell does the same, you will need to push all the buttons and make the beam evaporate the opponents beam. There are many more capabilities. More WILL be on the way. Continue gaming DBZ fans.

Fun fighting game for the DBZ fan

Strengths: Large number of Dragonball Z characters, several fusions, new moves

Weakness: Somewhat simple fighting system

First of all, this fighting sries was made for only one reason: to get the large number of Dragonball Z anime fans to buy a video game. Did it work? Absolutely. Just look at me. Now that we'v got the game, is it worth it? Sure.

The game itself is simply a fighting game at heart, similar to most of the others (ie- Tekken). You choose a character and then fight through story mode as you try and beat everyone that challenges you. Each button performs a specific move (punch, kick, etc.), and stringing them together releases combos and different types of attacks. If you launch your opponent into the air, then you get to fly around and fight while floating/flying through the air.

The fighting system itself is actally pretty simple, but it does get the job done. The graphics on the other hand are definately amazing. The characters and ffects are just like what you would expect from the show and if you watch other people fight, you may as well be watching the show itself. The voices are from the people who actually do the American dubbed versions of DBZ, so nothing sounds awkward.

Overall, I'd say I enjoy this game a lot. However, I think that if you have never seen Dragonball Z, don't know who Buu, Vegeta, and the rest of the clan are, you may as well just pick up a different fighting title all together, as this game was specifically engineered with the DBZ anime fan in mind.

Another DBZ game that just doesn't live up!

Strengths: Good for the fans

Weakness: Many flaws

DBZ Budokai is a great game for DBZ fans. If you are not a fan, however, you will probably find the game to be very shallow.

The storyline is completely inaccurate to the actual show and the fighting system isn't all that great. So, if you're looking for a good, solid fighter, skip this one if you're not a fan of the series.

The game isn't very much of an improvement from the first one. The graphics have been changed to cel-shaded and new characters have been added but otherwise, the fighting system in this game is basically the same. The moves are very limited and you just have to tap a couple of buttons for a combo. The sounds are similiar to those of the first one and I have even heard some of the same exact sounds.

In conclusion, if your a DBZ fan, get the game. If not, skip it completely.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2

Strengths: Fun Adventure Mode that follows the storylines, lots of capsules to collect, customize able characters

Weakness: Mostly for fans of the series, fighting is simple, too many animations are the same

Dragonball Z Budokai 2 offers the same fast paced action fighting of the original plus more. The capsule system returns along with the Dragon Quest mode that lets you play along the storylines. The fighting is decent, though simple, but very fun. If you're a Dragonball fan, you should be able to look past most of those little gripes. Budokai is the best series as far as DB fighting games go, a must play game for any fan. If you already haven't picked up Budokai 3, give 2 a shot since you can try out the series for a cheaper price of admission.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2

Strengths: Graphic

Weakness: Content

Budokai 1 and Budokai 2 look like beta versions of Budokai 3. The worst weakness of Budokaai 2 is that every character has the same type of skills. You learn how to control one character, you learn how to control all the characters. If you are a action game fan, go Tekken 5. If you are a Dragon Ball Z fan, go Budokai 3. The 2-D graphic of each character is better than the 3-D graphic in Budokai 1, though.

Pretty Good

Strengths: Fun

Weakness: Can't compare to Budokai 3

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 is a pretty good game. It has nice graphics (Not that good when compared with more recent titles) and fun gameplay. I say just splurge the extra ten dollars and get Budokai 3, and if you like Budokai 3 and see this cheap, give it a shot

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2

If there ever was a video game award for Sequel that was most similar to the original, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 would certainly be a nominee, if not a winner. In fact, this game has no significant improvement in functional terms over the first one. Right away I can tell you that if you played the first one, your opinion of this game will more than likely be the same.

Dragon Ball Z®: Budokai(tm) 2

The Dragon Ball series is one of the most lucrative franchises in the world. If you look around you will find myriads of games, comics, DVD’s, and many other items related to this franchise. Dragon Ball Z, in particular, has spurned many fighting games on various systems, and this is due to the “fighting” nature of the anime. Last year Infogrames released Dragon Ball Z Budokai, and while it...

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2

It was just over 12 months ago that Dimps and Infogrames loudly released one of the biggest PlayStation 2 titles of 2002. Selling in excess of a million copies in North America alone, Dragon Ball Z Budokai served as a classic example of consumerism over criticism -- as the masses latched onto its charming characters and faithful recreations, while professional observers cited it for a lack of...

Can this be possible?! A decent Dragon Ball Z game that every Namekian and Saiyan fan will enjoy? You bet, but don’t expect a revolutionary fighting game.
