Atari The Temple of Elemental Evil: A Classic...

Strengths: Excellent turn based combat system with tons of spells, weapons and monsters. Quests that remind of of the first Might & Magic (sniff). Rules that follow AD&D 3rd Ed.

Weakness: I don't know if it's my computer or not, but my mouse acts extremely slow here. Game wasn't designed to be customizable. You can't import portraits or create your own adventures.

It took me about 20 minutes to figure out the game play, (I haven't figured out everything, yet). But after that, I was addicted. I thoroughly enjoyed the combat system, though I thought travel around the game world could use improvement (dots traversing over a map??) Me, I prefer watching the characters walk across the virtual landscape, so I wish that was an option. I also mentioned that I wished the game could be customized with portraits and such. As it is, there are not enough portraits for your characters to choose from. But so far, there are plenty of quests to keep me busy. Eventually I'll run out of them, too bad I can't download more or make my own.

Atari The Temple of Elemental Evil: A Classic...

Strengths: Great graphics and sound, based on the AD&D 3.5 Edition rules, different quests depending on character alignment, good, turn-based combat

Weakness: Sometimes unresponsive, no multiplayer, storyline is a bit flat, enemy AI isn't very smart

Temple Of Elemental Evil is the first game built on the Version 3.5 edition of the Dungeon and Dragons game rules.

This game is a retelling of the classic D&D 4-module series, done up with the new version 3.5 of the AD&D rules, which allows for a near-limitless amount of customization for the characters.

The game looks and sounds great, with very detailed graphics for the scenery, the character models, as well as the spell effects. With the great graphics are equally impressive sound effects and voice acting.

The basic plot is a bit flat, as most actions happen in a dungeon, so there tends to be a bit of repetitiveness in the quests. One thing that is different is that the outcomes of the quests seem to depend on the alignment of the party members, from good to evil, lawful to chaotic. When the combat does happen, it breaks down into a turn-based combat system, just like the 3.5 edition rules. One issue is that the enemy AI seems to be a bit dense in combat, not reacting appropriately to being attacked.

One annoying issue is that sometimes, the game just doesn't respond to mouse clicks. At random intervals, mouse clicks don't seem to respond and multiple clicks are needed.

There's no multiplayer, as it's a single player game only.

For people looking at a good solid single player RPG game should take a look at this title.

Overall good game

Strengths: Classic rolepalying adventure. Great graphics, involved story line.

Weakness: Characters only obtain level 10 before the cap.

In playing on paper and on computer, this a great RPG. Using XP to create items and such is a great addition, similar to NWN Xpansion Hordes. It is a great next step to a detailed UW campaign which fully utilizes 3.5 rules and abilities. If there is any drawback, it is definitely the character cap which limits the game.

TOEE

Strengths: D&D 3.5 rules

Weakness: Buggy without patches

Update those patches or you will have an unplayable game. There are fan-sites out there that have done even better than the patches for stability. Cool D&D game set in the best campaign world ever, Greyhawk.

Atari The Temple of Elemental Evil: A Classic...

Strengths: Sticks to the new 3.5 Edition D&D rules... more so than NWN. Good interface, that is user friendly.

Weakness: Occasionally cumbersome interface, not multiplayer

The game sticks as close to the origional module as possible. More of a dungeon crawl, than a 'hack' fest... very enjoyable to the D&D fan (though, lack of multi-player limits the RPG assect).
