Yoshi Touch & Go

Strengths: Now a classic from the early days of the DS that is still a fun pick up and play game

Weakness: Really nothing more than a tech demo compared to newer games

Yoshi Touch and Go was one of the first DS titles to make full use of the unique features of the system - the dual screens and the stylus. At the time it was released early on in the DS life cycle, many other games were simply GBA ports and didn't make full use of the system's capabilites. Yoshi Touch & Go consists of two main gameplay elements. First, you guide a falling baby Mario by drawing clouds to cushion his descent and guide him away from enemies. Once he lands on Yoshi on the ground, the game turns into a side-scroller where you also draw clouds - but this time to guide Yoshi over and under obstacles and enemies. In this phase you can also tap on Yoshi to make him flutter or tap on enemies to make Yoshi throw an egg at them. That is about all there is to it besides a few different modes with which to attempt these same basic game types. There is also a 2-player mode requiring only one cart that is pretty fun as well. This game was fresh and exciting when it first came out as it demonstrated what the DS was capable of with some creative developers at the helm. While many great games have come out since, this fairly short and simple game remains one of the classics for the system.

Fun , Often Overlooked DS game

Strengths: Great use of DS touchpad & dual screen

Weakness: Game can feel repetitive after awhile

One thing that should cleared up--this game is not a sequel to Yoshi's Island. This is probably the biggest reason some gamers felt let down with this game--they were expecting a platformer like Yoshi's Island or Yoshi Topsy Turvy. In fact, Yoshi Touch N Go is more akin to the classic Mario Brothers or Donkey Kong games, in that you're essentially playing the same game over and over to achieve a higher score. The main game starts with Baby Mario falling from the sky and you use the stylus to deter enemies and draw clouds to safely guide Mario down. In the 2nd part, Baby Mario and Yoshi are continuously moving across the screen, while you use the stylus to throw eggs at enemies and guide Yoshi across various obstacles. While this can get repetetive after a while, there are a few different modes to add a bit of variety. Overall, I feel that this is one of the funnest games out there to incorporate the DS's touchpad technology.

Yoshi Touch & Go

You know, I don't believe I have ever read or seen the extended relationship between Yoshi and Mario. Clearly they have teamed up together in countless games. Sometimes as rivals, but for the most part they are tried-and-true friends. And if the events of the previous "Yoshi's Island" are to be believed, then Yoshi is older then Mario and has for some reason made it his lifelong mission to...
