Reviews for Killer 7

Not everyone type of game

Strengths: Story, Art Style

Weakness: Style came before Gameplay, Love it or hate it game

Killer 7 is something hard to describe. It's basically an on-rails shooter. You never have full control over your characters, you just make them walk straight on a path and if there is somewhere you can turn the game will freeze and let you select whether you want to take this other path. Combat goes as such, you have to enter a first-person view, press a button to scan the area you are looking for to seek out invisible enemies, then shoot the hell out of them.

The game oozes style and has a great story once you get past the odd opening section. But it is plainly obvious that style and presentation came before gameplay. It's still a great ride, but the gameplay can use some major tweaks.

Kids didn't like it, but I did.

Strengths: Interesting, deep, politically-intriguing plotline; lengthy game; plenty of shooting action.

Weakness: Plot is hard to fathom at times and pretty strange overall. A lot of the game is "on a rail" with no opportunity to explore

My kids (age 12 and 16) didn't have time for the peculiar plot of this game; they live for shooting. There's plenty of it in Killer 7, although there's a lot of other stuff to do that action purists may find to be an annoying distraction. Graphics are pretty good and the story gets weirder as you play. Got this game less than $15, thought it was a great deal for that price.

Killer 7

Strengths: different than other games

Weakness: control schemes

Killer 7 is somewhat similar to XIII. It uses cell shading graphics. Your character can take many forms which each have their own special abilities. One of Killer 7 strengths is its plot. The graphics and sound are ok. At times gameplay can be repetitive.

Something different that may not be for everyone

Strengths: Storyline

Weakness: Non Traditional Control

Killer 7 is a cel-shaded adventure game that will have you taking control of 7 different assassins that will have to put an end to a terrorist organization and while it does have many redeeming quailties that make it a good game it also strays away from more traditional controls which may turn away some gamers from Killer 7. The gameplay consist of 3 different types of play, 3rd person view in which you will more your characters around on a rail based system in a 3D enviorment which is very simple and what alot of people may not like as you basically move forward or backwards on a set path and can at times decide on which way you want to go at certain parts in which your path will be split in a Y. First Person in which you will be shooting bad guys the big thing here is while this is much like any first person shooter type game you won't be able to move in Killer 7 while in First Person view. And lastly you will also have puzzles to solve which will remind you much of Resident Evil type puzzles or the type of puzzle that were in games such as Myst. While playing Killer 7 you will have to switch between the 7 different Assassins that you can control as during certain parts in the game you will have to use different skills that are unique to each of the assassins in order to progress though the game.

All in all I would recommend Killer 7 to someone that is into story driven and or old adventure games such as Myst and isn't scared away by the unusual (and which may also be viewed as primitive) control setup. I would highly recommend renting Killer 7 before buying to see if it's your cup of tea also.

Surrealist gaming

Strengths: Stunning presentation, compelling storyline, great concept and graphics. Very artistic approach overall

Weakness: Gameplay can be weak and repetitive, controls are ok, little replay value.

Ok, straight away, I bought this solely because of the stills I'd seen in the game mags. This game looked beautiful when it was released for the GC and I couldn't wait for it to port to the PS2. The cell shaded appearance just bowled me over and, though I'd heard mixed reviews I thought I'd take a chance
When the price dropped to $10 I just had to have it.
As far as looks and story go it doesn't disappoint. This game looks great. Hopefully US developers will pay attention to the artistic approach and appeal of edgy games like Killer 7.
But a game is a game, not a movie, and as such Killer 7 falls short. It could have been so much more but the load times, repetitive gameplay, and uneven difficulty make this a mediocre game at best. Still, from my perspective, the look and story are enough for me. That's why I bought it and why I'm happy to have it in my library of games.
Very subjective. I think I would recommend a rental before purchase, but as prices fall may just be worth the purchase.
At $10 I know I am happy with it.

If you can, try before you buy

Strengths: Oozes style. Flies its freak flag well.

Weakness: Control, gameplay, weird off-putting-ness of it all.

Read any reviews for this game and you'll see it's a love it or hate it affair. That is completely true. If you are interested in this game, be prepared to put in some time and energy, or don't bother. It helps if you like bullets, blood, monsters, and disturbing psychological issues.

This is not the kind of game you can jump into. The control is downright strange, there's lots of text to read, and if you're not disoriented and out of your league in ten minutes, then you're a much better gamer than I.

Rather than go with what you might expect, the controls are closer to a point-and-click adventure. You can only go forward and choose your direction from branching paths. Why was this done? I suspect it was to heighten the sense of being out of your element, but it works too well. I hate the controls. I would prefer something that feels intuitive and then departs from that (like the insanity
effects in Eternal Darkness) or something that doesn't feel so arbitrarily weird.

Killer 7 is one of those games that, to me, sounds interesting on paper but is just too weird and off-putting to be an enjoyable game. It seems like the title was designed to be inaccessible, or at least to have a very steep and involved learning curve.

I almost wish that Killer 7 were an anime instead of a game. That way it could tell its story without having to be saddled by a weird, non-intuitive kinda-sorta game that just impedes the experience.

Killer 7 (PS2)

Strengths: 1) intriguing storyline presented via anime-influenced visuals and cutscenes 2) Unique presentation and strange dialogue will appeal to many

Weakness: 1) Definalately not a game for everyone. Keep this one away from kids. May be too different for some gamers. 2) Limited movement options lessen the amount of control the player has over navigation

Killer 7 is a unique gaming experience and should be sought out by those looking for a change from common video game genres offered this console generation. The game puts more emphasis on it's story and shocking anime themes than it does on the actual gameplay. At times, it can be frustrating to figure out what you are supposed to do to solve a puzzle or defeat an enemy. Killer 7 is a unique experiment, and should be enjoyed by gamers looking to broaden their horizon and experience something different. I found the story and characters to be interesting, in an otherworldly sort of way. It is obviously a creative effort above all else (much to the determint of the gameplay) but if you approach it with an open mind you will probably enjoy what it has to offer. This game can be had for a bargain price, which makes it a very accessible experience.

K7

Strengths: Graphics, story

Weakness: Gameplay, controls

This game is pretty weird. Graphics is one thing. It has a different graphic art style. Gameplay and controls are awkward. The controls are worked differently. This game is definitely not for kids. As you can see it is rated M. This game is pretty difficult. The story might get you confused. So, I will recommend this game to adults who likes killing actions and solving puzzles.

Not quite

Strengths: Unique graphical flair, weird characters, bizarre dialogue

Weakness: Limited on-rails "gaming", repetitiveness

Anyone up to the task of reviewing Killer 7 is faced with a certain kind of dilemma: How does one rate a "game" when said game in question is somewhat limited in terms of interactivity? It's the kind of dilemma that makes one re-think the entire genre and ask the fundamental question: "What makes a game a game?" Going either further one can ask "Can a video game be considered as a form of art?".

I wouldn't necessarily stick Killer 7 in either category completely, but it flouts the boundaries of each just enough that it deserves some serious analysis and, if anything, serves as a somewhat interesting footnote in the annals of videogaming.

As many have said - this game isn't for everybody. Other than the Mature rating which obviously leaves out the under 17 crowd, Killer 7 is, stylistically speaking, certainly not for everybody. It's dark in a noir-ish kind of way. It's weird in a psychotic kind of way. And it's just plain surreal like a Dali painting.

At first I hated it, but if you're anything like me give it some time and you will find yourself getting into the weird and minimal interactivity of it all, if anything just to see the next twisted goons that you must mow down or the next creepy plot point. I like the feel of the 7 different personalities - they add some variability to an otherwise standard adventure game (i.e. solve puzzles Resident Evil style to progress to the next level). In other words its the game's presentation that really makes it stand out, not any original gameplay elements.

In sum, if you want something off the beaten path then Killer 7 should not disappoint. It's not revolutionary by any means, but it certainly isn't quite like anything you've played before it, and that to me is the mark of a good game. But is it art? Perhaps, perhaps not - it's all in the eyes of the beholder.

Art on rails

Strengths: Nifty artistic design, great story

Weakness: Gameplay can get tedious

Controlling a group of assasins is at the core of Killer 7, a psychedelic game that lacks polished gameplay, but excels in visuals and mood. Moving on rails, the gameplay is basic shooting, and some puzzles don't really add much. However the obtuse (but cool) story and unusual visuals will keep you interested from start to finish.

Killer Game!

Strengths: Totally unique game. Awesome art style.

Weakness: frequent loading times. Difficult game.

Killer 7 is Capcom's attempt at something new instead of making another sequal. It's originality pays off with a very unique and fresh gaming experience. Killer 7 is a violent shooter/adventure hybrid that puts you in the role of a hitman with multiple personnalities. The game can be difficult mainly because of the controls. the characters are cool and the voice acting is top notch with some famous anime voicce actors in there. This game got bad reviews because everyone thought this was a FPS which it's not. If you are ready for something new and creative, give Killer 7 a try.

Killer 7, not just a handgun in Resident Evil 4...

Strengths: Unique presentation, engaging storyline, solid graphics, budget price

Weakness: So unique that it's simply "odd," weak enemy A.I., awkward control scheme

Killer 7 is one of a number of titles publisher Capcom once promised would remain exclusive to the Gamecube. Such promises are easily broken as Killer 7 now finds its love-it-or-hate-it gameplay aboard the PS2.

Killer 7 involves a mentally-challenged assassin fighting a group of terrorists. As one of his 7 personalities, you'll fight various terrorists in an on-rail shooter of sorts. Given the loose controls and weak enemy A.I., you probably won't have a whole lot of fun doing this.

Fortunately, Killer 7 also offers an interesting storyline and more stylized presentation than even XIII. The mature theme and psychological underpinnings will keep players coming back just to figure out what's actually going on.

Obviously, Killer 7 has some serious gameplay flaws, so players interested despite this will want to make sure they pay $20 or less for the privilege. If you have any doubts, you'll want to rent this before buying as some people just hate it, no questions asked.

Interesting "game"

Strengths: Unique style, interesting story

Weakness: Strange gameplay

Love it or hate it. That seems to be how most people view this game. Some love it for its "killer" presentation and story. This game really does support the argument that video games can be considered a valid form of art.

On the other hand, the actual gameplay gets very repetative, and isn't very polished. It's really an on rails shooter where the gameplay simply serves to bridge the story sections.

Also, though I cannot personally confirm this, the Gamecube version is supposedly more polished and better looking.

Excellent experience, but falls flat as a game

Strengths: Very interesting story, disturbing and strange world

Weakness: Gameplay is little more than an "on-rails" shooter of yore.

Killer 7 is a very hard game to review. There are two very distinct and seperate parts to the game. The story with presentation and the gameplay.

Story/Presentation: The story of Killer 7 is told through the eyes of Harman Smith...an assassin with multiple personality syndrome, among many other mental disorders. The game is constantly throwing twists into the story, making you wonder what is real and what isn't. It's a very mature psychological thriller, easily matching up to the major motion pictures in terms of story. It's an experience not to be missed.

Game: The game...well...sucks. Enemies are devoid of intelligence (as they literally throw themselves on you to deal damage), motion is forwards and backwards only and (at least on normal) the game is exceptionally easy. If the game didn't have the story to back it up, it wouldn't be worth any time at all.

Is Killer 7 worth it? Definatly, if you realize that the gameplay sucks and you're willing to buy into Harman's Smith's dementia. If you can't get into the story, stay far far away.

Scary Suspense Action

Strengths: Different, not your typical shoot em up.

Weakness: Controls are a bit ackward and loading screens are lame (quite dizzying).

Anime like feel with an interesting storyling from the moment you start the game. The questions from beginning will keep you playing and proves to be addicting. However this game came seem quite scary and reveals much blood and monster/demonic like themes. If you're looking for a different type of third person shooter, this is the game for you. Capcom usually makes decent games...this one is okay in my opinion.

Decent Stylized game

Strengths: New Graphic style not really seen before, at least it's not another FPS, Great comic/Anime type story

Weakness: Very poor gameplay

This Capcom game has graphics that are almost like the Cell shaded games that were popular with games that came out in 2004 but better in my opinion. It has a mature adult oriented story that is an action adventure game and not a first person shooter. The controller steup takes some getting used to but can be overcome with numerous hours of gameplay. This title can be found very cheap now so for like ten or fifteen bucks it is worth picking up. Hunt this game out.

killer 7 killed by lack of substance

Strengths: art direction

Weakness: story, controls

applaud Capcom for their effort: trying to make a game stand up and above the crowd. score one for style. however, once you get over the wow factor, the lack of substance reveals itself: an incoherent storyline that jumps from one pov to the next, without any concrete connections. good for a rental night or two before boredom and confusion set in.

Surprisingly good

Strengths: unpridictable

Weakness: if you are a fan of resident evil, this may looks like a knock off.

I found this on sale and got it with little expectation but surprisingly Killer 7 is a very good game, if you are into wild/psychotic adventures then you will like it. Nice graphics and facinating adventure.

Killer 7

Strengths: Unique graphics, gameplay, and killer storyline.

Weakness: Might be too wierd for conventional gamers.

I applaud Capcom for taking new approach to action games. This game definitely has a style never seen in a game. A noir game, the action is rough, the graphics are great and the gameplay is fun. Worthy rental or cheap purchase. Support these type of games!

Killer 7

Strengths: Awesome game, amazing storyline.

Weakness: None that I can see.

This game is a blast! Good graphics, great storyline; all in all, this is a must have. For $10 during the TRU sale, this is definitely a must have title. Buy it!

Unique

Strengths: Great art style, the cel-shaded graphics look phenominal. Interesting/unique story. Good gameplay, with many inovative mechanics never before seen.

Weakness: Not long enough. The violence seems a little over the top at times.

Deffinitely a change of pace from your ordinary shooter, Killer 7 has you in the role of a person with 7 different personalities, all of which happen to be very adept at killing. You are charged with stoping a terrorist organization known as Heaven's Smile, which is comprised of many suicide bombers that appear in various monsterous forms. This game has been highly under rated for the quality of it's gameplay and should be added to the collection of anyone that enjoys I good psychological shooter.

Killer 7

Upon first glance, you could hardly be blamed for thinking that Killer 7 is another Resident Evil inspired survival horror game. It sure does look like one, after all, despite the game's funky visuals. You're even solving simple puzzles and shooting zombie-like creatures. And it's made by Capcom -- the masters of survival horror. But if you go into Killer 7 expecting the next Resident Evil 4, you...

Killer 7

There's no doubt that people are going to be divided on Capcom's unpredictable, stylized and sometimes downright psychotic new adventure game, Killer 7. The title, from director Suda 51 , is a bizarre journey into a surreal world where nothing is exactly as it seems and profanity, sex and bloodshed are commonplace. This is a particularly difficult game to review because its Achilles heel is its...
