XIII

Strengths: Cel-shaded Graphics, Unique concept, Gameplay, Interesting plot that kept me motivated to finish

Weakness: Average FPS, AI is a little weak, Save system is annoying

I REALLY liked the cel-shaded graphics; it felt like I was in a comic book. The storyline is very involved and interesting, so I felt motivated to finish the game which is a sign of a good game to me. I have a ton of games I have never bothered to finish for various reasons.

The AI is a little stupid. You can duck behind a rock, pop up and shoot a couple times, duck, repeat until he's dead. A more intelligent enemy would find cover.

Maybe its just me but the save/reload system is really annoying. Dependign on when you save and die, you don't get to reload at the exact point that you saved. This could have been solved by auto-saving the game at appropriate spots and just not allowing you to save your own spot.

One of the most underrated FPS for the Xbox

Strengths: Unique cel-shaded concept; amazing gameplay and graphics; multiplayer!

Weakness: Manual saves after checkpoints become tedious after a while; sound is pretty disappointing

XIII is a FPS released by Ubisoft. It uses the cel-shaded concept which is essentially like reading a comic book for those of you unfamiliar with this genre. The game has a very interesting premise with some pretty significant star power (Adam West, David Duchovny, and Eve). The story keeps you engaged throughout (feels more like a mystery than a run-of-the-mill shoot 'em up), but I must admit that the ending will leave you a bit disappointed. While XIII has a few glaring problems such as the metallic sounding weapons and tedious saves, I would definitely recommend this game especially because of its unique concept and since it is now a budget title ($5-10)at most retailers.

XIII

Strengths: good graphics, xbox live

It is a first person shooter which uses cell shading. You play as XIII who trys to uncover and prove his innocence as he is suspected of assasinating the president. You can play on-line with these multiplayer modes- death match, team death-match, capture the flag, and sabatoge

XIII (Xbox)

Strengths: (1) Nice comic style rendering of characters and events (2) Story provides motivation to see the game through to its end

Weakness: (1) Average FPS action (2) Below average enemy and NPC AI (2) Not a very long game

XIII (Xbox) provides a different kind of FPS experience, if only for the cell shaded graphics and comic book style cutscenes. The story is interesting enough to warrant a playthrough but, overall, it is a pretty average game and doesn't do much else to differentiate itself from the crowd. It's a good choice if you can pick it up cheap (which you should be able to) or as a rental.

Amazing FPS from Ubi-Soft

Strengths: Graphics are quite amazing, storyline very captivating, controls are right on, game is smooth, nice multiplayer options

Weakness: Only one - multiplayer is overshadowed by other FPS games, not many play online.

XIII has everything going for it - a hit voice cast, great graphics, a very captivating storyline, intense music, and even great multiplayer. Cel-Shaded graphics have been tried in all other genres of video games, but XIII took it to the FPS market and it was a great move. The comic book feel is well appreciated. Tad bloody and a little vulgar language in this game, but it is rated M for those very reasons.

A+

Nearly a masterpiece

Strengths: Amazing cel-shaded graphics and presentation, intriging storyline, good controls

Weakness: Stealth missions, somewhat short

XIII may be the most cinematic first-person shooter available this generation. The cel-shaded graphics do a great job of pulling you into a comic book atmosphere. The story telling and voice work is top notch and the soundtrack also sets the mood perfectly. The gameplay is pretty standard first-person shooter fare, but there are some nice subtleties thrown in. For instance, any time you shoot someone in a particularly gruesome fashion, three comic style frames will appear on your screen stylizing the action. It's really a nice touch.

I have only three gripes with this game. The first is the unnecessary stealth missions. Most of the game is run and gun shooting and then they suddenly put you into these brief stealth missions that are a lot of trial and error. My second gripe is that the game is somewhat short at only about six to eight hours.

Overall, I think this is a must buy game at the current prices. It's definitely one of my favorite first-person shooters this generation.

High in style

Strengths: Visually appealing, engaging splitscreen multiplayer

Weakness: No one one Live, does not hold up to more recent xbox titles

XIII may be worth picking up just as a curiosity, especially as its price now hovers around rental levels. The flow of the story, graphics, presentation and audio, do a great job bringing French comics to life. And the single player experience if of decent length. The cel shading brings a new dimension to splitscreen gaming, but will wear down since the depth of options and choices simply is not there. Then again, a game like Doom 3 does not even have split screen multiplayer, for whatever that is worth.
The shame is that as for playing this on Live, like many older games, the community has moved on. If cell shading appeals to you, this title is highly recommended. But if you are looking for a Live multiplayer fps, XIII will not come through by any means.

XIII

Strengths: Cel-shaded graphics, strong voice acting, online compatible with Xbox Live.

Weakness: Multiplayer not that fun, just an average FPS.

XIII is an average first person shooter but it seems like a better game then it really is because it features cel-shaded graphics and has a comic book style presentation. Not too many FPS games look or have their story unfold like this, so this gives XIII a definite advantage in that department. That's not to say it's a good game (it's not) but it passes for decent. The problem is the game is not all that interesting and the controls are only okay. The voice acting is quite good though, with the main character being voiced by X-Files's alumnus, David Duchovony. It was nice to hear old Fox Mulder's voice again. The multiplayer games are not very good. There's not enough variety when it comes to levels or weapons to keep the game interesting. If you do like the multiplayer levels however, then you'll be able to enjoy it anytime you want as this game is online compatible with Xbox Live. You'll probably try it once and never come back to it though. In the end, XIII is an average game but nothing more.

XIII

Strengths: Nice cel-shaded graphics, interesting story

Weakness: Weak multiplayer

XIII puts you in the role of an amnesic man involved in a complicated assassination conspiracy.

The cel-shaded graphics in this game are nice and the comic book inspired style nature is top notch. Watching the entire story unfold through out the game proved to be one of the best first person shooter experiences I've ever had. Replay value is on the low side for 1p and the multiplayer mode included is nothing to get excited over, unfortunately.

XIII is pretty cheap everywhere and while that is unfortunate (since it sold poorly), it just gives you a better chance to buy and play this gem of a game.

XIII

Strengths: Decent graphics, FUN story line

Weakness: Gameplay is alright, but could be better

This game was well worth the small amount I paid for it. I wouldn't call it a $40.00 game or anything, but it entertained me enough to make it well worth my 20 bucks. Its a game where you're going to either going to like it or HATE it. Most people I've talked to liked it.

XIII

Strengths: Stylish, cel-shaded graphics. Story draws you in.

Weakness: Gameplay gets repetitive. Sub-par multiplayer.

XIII is a game that draws you in with its visual style and mysterious story line. Then it puts you off with its ho-hum gameplay and lackluster multiplayer support. The voice acting is hit (Adam West) or miss (David Duchovny) as well. Everything that this game does, another shooter has already done better.

The single player is worth a run through once for the story, but I can't recommend anything beyond that.

XIII

It’s not rare to see a game based on comic book characters but it is certainly rare to see one based on an obscure French graphic novel . . . especially one that has an intricate storyline with plot twists aplenty. XIII, though, has received much attention for its visual style. While cel-shading is not a new concept for video games (see Auto Modellista for the PS2 or Jet Set Radio Future for...

XIII

As most gamers have probably heard by now, XIII is a cel-shaded first-person shooter based on a French comic book--excuse moi, graphic novel--about a military operative who's suffering from amnesia and is being chased after by both the authorities and a shadowy group of Bad People who want to do Bad Things. It feels like a bouquet of Hitman 2, No One Lives Forever, and the movie The Bourne...

XIII

Aesthetics can get a title pretty far in the video game industry. But graphical tricks stand the chance of becoming clichéd gimmicks as quickly as tired gameplay mechanics. When Ubisoft announced that it would release the first cel-shaded first-person shooter, skeptics were quick to insult the company's apparent hop onto the bandwagon. But as people were shown more of the game, the dismay turned...
