ObscureStrengths: A very cool cinematic 2 player survival horror idea.. Weakness: that idea didnt translate into a resident evil calibur of experience My main gripe with this game is the overall lack of originality in the gameplay. The presentation is like a teen horror friday the thirteenth film which was good. But the controlls and weapons and just the enviroments were lame. I did like the 2 player experience but having us both on the same screen was not good at all. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Obscure
Does that line (about Jamie Lee Curtis) even make sense to you considering I'm writing a review about a teenage horror game that takes place in an old creepy school? Well if it doesn't then let me explain. Much of my misspent youth was done watching cheesy teenage slasher flicks from the late 70's and early 80's. In fact as I played Obscure, I was instantly reminded of several horror flicks... Top

Obscure
If you had told me that a game starring characters named Stan, Kenny, and Mr. Garrison was supposed to be one of the most innovative horror games of 2005, I probably would have thought you were joking. But after playing through Dreamcatcher Interactive's tag-team terror known as Obscure, I'm definitely more inclined to believe it. You see, the players mentioned above aren't digital versions of... The best budget survival horror title you've...
Strengths: Great atmosphere/sound, five playable characters, partner swapping, unique two-player co-op mode, budget price
Weakness: Short overall length, no online support, limited replay value, not really scary
ObsCure brings survival horror to high schools as you play as one (or all) of five available teenage characters trapped overnight in a learning environment gone wrong. You can pick any two of them to use at a given time and swap between them at will.
While each character has his/her own unique skills, none of them are necessary to complete the game. In fact if you mistakenly get one (or several) of your party members killed off during play, you can continue on with your remaining teenagers.
You'll play in pairs of characters. You control your primary character and can give your computer A.I. partner rudimentary commands as in Resident Evil Zero. You can also switch between the two characters or swap their inventory items as any time. ObsCure also brings a unique two-play mode to the table in that a second player can join in at any time by taking over your partner's contol from the computer.
The graphics and sound are pretty decent for a budget title. The full-motion video cinemas are a bit grainy, and all of the characters could be a little more detailed. The storyline isn't very original, and the mosters aren't too scary either. Still, ObsCure provides an interesting enough romp through Leafmore high's hallways.
Xbox doesn't have a lot of survival horror titles to choose from, so while ObsCure does have a number of minor flaws, the budget asking price more offsets this if you're a genre fan. Unfortunately, the budget price also means that most players haven't even heard of it to begin with.
