Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Strengths: Great cast of characters. Lots of fun.

Weakness: It's slightly older so no xbox live. Slightly unbalanced.

MvC2 is a great game for the xbox. It's a little old school. There's no online multiplayer but it's great when playing against others in the same room. The controls are responsive. The moves are flashy. And there's a lot to be said about a fighting game with both Marvel and Capcom characters. It would be great if a new version was released but this is all we have for now.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Strengths: Immense roster of fighters, flashy and colorful graphics, frantic action, nice sound effects

Weakness: No online play, some fighters badly overbalanced compared to others, graphics a little dated for XBox

One of the biggest 2D fighters around is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. There's a huge list of fighters to pick from, over 50, from all over the Capcom and Marvel universes. They can be matched in an immense number of combinations, including up to three-on-three action. Some of the fighters and combinations of fighters can be a little overbearing compared to most of the others, though it's not a huge problem. The action is always fast and furious, in all types of combinations.

The graphics are flashy and colorful for the a 2D fighter, giving a nice comic book feel to the game, though they don't come anywhere near pushing the XBox to its limits. The sound effects also are pretty good, and likewise, appropriate for the game.

There is no online multiplayer in this game, and it's an ugly ommision when other fighting titles from Capcom have online multiplayer.

For any fan of a 2D fighting game, this is one to have and play many many times over.

My favorite 2D fighter of all time

Strengths: Over 50 characters from the Marvel and Capcom universes, flashy and beautiful 2D graphics

Weakness: No online play

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is my favorite 2D fighter on any system. The cast of characters alone is amazing. All your favorites from the Marvel and Capcom universes are in this game and beautifully hand-drawn.

Anyone familiar with Capcom fighting games will quickly be able to pull of over-the-top special moves that will fill the entire screen with action. It truly is a beautifully animated game and the fast pace, hectic gameplay will definitely get you hooked. I highly recommend this to any 2D fighting fan.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Strengths: Arcade perfect

Weakness: No online play, or extras to speak of

MvC2 is a great 2d fighter with a wide variety of characters and since you fight a tag team of 3 during matches, there is a huge amount of play strategy. Which makes it all the more shameful you cannot game online and must either beat on the computer or get a friend to devote as much time playing so as to be competitive.
In todays age of 3d fighters offering loads and loads of extra content, MvC2 is pretty much game only. It would have been nice if MvC 1 had been included. What this all means is if you already own the PS2 version or the Dreamcast (or stuffed the arcade cabinet into the back of your closet), there is no need to pick up the xbox version. BUT, if you want a chance to bust down with a large selection of marvel characters (and can find this at a reasonable price), with solid audio and respectable graphics, pick this up.
I would have liked Capcom to release this at the 19.99 price level and with online play. Maybe next time.

Headline: Buy this Bloody Game! Buy it now!

I have been a huge Marvel/Capcom fan for years and I'm well established and over qualified to comment on both, but bringing both together and "Bang"! A 2-D beat em up masterpiece!

Marvel vs Capcom 2: New age of Heroes is the 4th Marvel/Capcom game. This game has all the characters from X-men: Children of the atom (1995), Marvel super Heroes (1996), Street Fighter Alpha Series (1992-?), plus other characters from Megaman (like t.bonne and roll), Star Gladiator (Hayato: the guy with the light sabre weapon), jin who came from a capcom game called "Cyberbots" The darkstalkers (minus dimitri, shame! but feline felicia is in, yes!)plus some characters who arn't familiar like Ruby heart, she first appeared in a capcom game called "Gunbird2", she is known as "Queen Pirate" and Amingo, a weard looking cactus thing. I have completed this game on its hardest level (8) and recently lead spiderman, captain america and the incredible hulk to victory against the final boss who you have to fight 3-times! 'nuff said, peeps go buy this game!

The best 2D fighters for the Xbox - peroid.

Strengths: Huge character roster (50+); three-on-three, fast, over-the-top fighting system, tired and true Street Fighter controls; lots to unlock; endless two player fun.

Weakness: Some 2D pixelation (the worse of the three home versions), music can get quite annoying (especially at the character select screen); nothing new added since the DC release.

Let me just lay it out there right now: I love this game. I loved it in the arcades, I loved it on the Dreamcast and I still love it here, three times around.

MvC2 is exactly what it sounds like: characters from the Marvel world and the Capcom world duke it out in over-the-top 2D graphics. With over 50 different characters to choose from (including Cable (from the X-Men universe), Jill Valentine (from Resident Evil), and Tron Bonne (from Mega Man Legends), among others), part of the fun is just coming up with new and different three person teams.

Which brings me to the fighting. Players choose teams of three, adjusting settings (such as what type of support attacks your non-active partners do, etc) and then they head out to fight. While the characters are 2D, the backgrounds are in full 3D...which is a nice touch, but since they do nothing to affect gameplay, you'll quickly forget about them (especially the one with the giant clown face - ugh). The controls are loose and responsive, allowing even beginners to piece together combos and special moves with relative ease. Anyone who has played any Capcom fighting game before will feel at home with these tired and true controls.

What really lets this game shine is how much fun it is to just sit down and play this game. Three character teams allow for a lot of trial and error when it comes to creating your own "perfect" team. Fighting is fierce and fast, constantly keeping you on your toes while also making this game a quick and easy pick-up.

But what it all boils down to is two player action. Nothing beats finding a great, working team of characters that shutdown a friend's favorite team or unleashing your entire team's super moves on a defenseless player, turning the tide of a close battle. You can still have plenty of fun with this game alone, unlocking all the secrets, but once that is over, what keeps this product such a high level product is multi-player.

As I said when I opened this review, I love this game. The Dreamcast version (and to a lesser extent the PS2 version) is slightly superior than this, as the graphics are cleaner, less pixelated. It is slightly cheaper, making it the superior version. But that hardly makes this game worth any less than the $60+ it consistantly grabs on eBay for a complete copy.

If you love 2D, over-the-top fighting, any of Capcom's other Vs. titles or are looking for a new multiplayer title, give this game a try! It will not disappoint!

Best Fighting Game?

Strengths: lots of characters(56 i believe) fast fighting, arcade perfect

Weakness: outdated graphics, not for beginners

This game is considered one of the best fighting games made. The graphics are a little outdated but the gameplay is what shines. With over 50 characters to choose from and on the fly swapping this game will never get old is u have friends that is. The is a lot of unlocking to do to get every character and thats where a lot of replay comes into effect. Overall the game is great and everyone should get a chance to play this game once in their life.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Strengths: Solid and addictive Capcom gameplay, great artwork, a plethora of characters.

Weakness: NO online play, an old arcade port, pixelated graphics, inferior to the Dreamcast version.

This is a great 2D fighter and perhaps the pinnacle of how great 2D fighters were. I love the fact that I can pit my favorite Marvel and Capcom characters against each other. The great artwork only accentuates the experience and immerses you in this fantasy setting. The game is fast paced and very combo-centric. The gameplay is very solid but there's the issue of the Xbox controller - it's just not comfortable and the position of the D-pad on the controller and the stiffness make it very difficult to pull out maneuvers. I recommend getting a PS2 controller converter or an arcade stick if you can find one. The one thing that seriously hampers this game is the lack of online play. At one point, Capcom promised to include that feature but decided to pull it out at the last minute fast (for some unknown reason). Fans of this game will no doubt enjoy this port. A definitely worth addition to an Xbox library.

Marvel vs Capcom 2

Let us flash back to the year 2000 and see what happened. The Y2K bug was nothing more than an over hyped scenario, which had many people stocked with supplies that they will never use. The “dot com” fad nearing the end of its heyday, and its founders had come up with incentive ways to make it more profitable. Finally the Sega Dreamcast was gaining steam before it was ultimately shutout....
