Rayman, Now in Handheld Form!Strengths: Handheld Rayman Weakness: The controls This game is based off Rayman 2. The controls arn't great, and this includes the D-Pad and touch screen. Unfortunately, the graphics are a bit blocky. You also can't save between stages easily. You can however, put the DS into sleep mode. I'd say this could be a decent game for the kids, but nothing more. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Rayman (DS)
Strengths: (1) Relatively deep and well-made platforming game
Weakness: (1) No good analog control option makes it difficult to control (2) this is a port of Rayman 2, not an original game which could have been made to play well on the DS
Rayman DS is a port of the very good (for its time) platforming game Rayman 2, which appeared on the Nintendo 64 and other last-gen consoles. The game itself is pretty good and engaging. However, the controls were definitely made worse in the transition to the DS. As with many early releases for the Nintendo DS, Rayman DS does not do anything to take advantage of the unique options available on the handheld. The controls can be frustrating because instead of having access to an analog stick (which is what you would use on the N64 to play), you are pretty much stuck with the digital pad. This means that diagonal movements are harder to pull off and there is only one speed to move at (running speed). There is a option to use an area of the touchpad to simulate analog control but it is too difficult to pull off. You can adapt to the digital pad, however, and the game is actually pretty good. The save points could have been better positioned and perhaps there should be more of them. As it is, you run into many parts that are overly difficult because of the control setup and have to keep your DS on unless you want to repeat a bunch of the progress that came before that sticking point.
