Strengths: lotsa fun blasting stuff

Weakness: can get repetitive after a while

This game is one of the first shooters that came out with the X ‘first launch along with games like Odd world and Halo. This game has basically no plot or story and to speak of, and is simply your character, Sam and his battle against evil aliens and monsters with nothing to protect him except his many, many guns and bullets. Each level place basically the same, in which you run around trying to stay away from the myriad enemies who try to surround you and blow you away to kingdom come. You will fight various monstrosities like headless kamikaze bombers who run straight at you with cherry bombs on both hands and gigantic bosses who want to blast, stomp, and eat you, all in that order. The controls are excellent for this game, where you're able to switch your weapons on the fly, providing for some quick paced battles. If you want to play a game that allows you to blow off stress by blowing away enemies upon enemies, then this game is definitely for you.

Serious Sam (Xbox)

Strengths: Frantic FPS action, sarcastic humor, varied weapons, lots of gameplay, co-op and system-link gameplay

Weakness: Very long load time, passable graphics, no XBL gameplay

Serious Sam Gold is the Xbox port of Serious Sam and Serious Sam: Second Encounter. The game is pure Doom-style FPS action, with waves of enemies coming over and over again. There are numerous weapons with different effects to take on all the enemies. Sam has a nice sarcastic side to him, and his one-liners are priceless. Since it's a port of the first two PC games, there's plenty of gameplay to be had. Multiplayer is co-op and system-link only, without XBL support. Unfortunately, there are some very very long load times between missions, so one has to be patient. Also the graphics are passable, though with all the action on-screen, it doesn't make much different.

A must-have for the FPS fan.

Hilarious FPS!

Strengths: A lot of great humor; clean graphics and sound; well-developed levels

Weakness: Enemies can get repetitive; not much thinking involved in gameplay

Serious Sam is a FPS that is set in the future. You are Serious Sam, a goofy character that sets out to destroy aliens and monsters coming from some other dimension. While FPS games might seem like a dime-a-dozen these days, what makes Serious Sam worth checking out is the humor. Sam's comments are pretty hilarious, and are never repeated. The developers obviously put some thought into designing the levels for this game. They aren't simple and linear. However, the monsters tend to be of the same variety which can get to be a bit annoying. The gameplay itself is a simple shoot-em-up with not much thinking involved. Nevertheless, the comedy in addition to the solid sound and graphics in this game make it a good buy. Since it's already been over 3 years that this game was released, it shouldn't cost you more than $10 to pick up.

Serious Sam

Strengths: Smooth gaming (controls, graphics), funny and fun to play, very long

Weakness: No Xbox live, Long load times

This is honestly one of my favorite games of all time on the PC and it was ported nicely to Xbox. So I'm a bit biased!

The game is very easy to pick up, controls are easy and make sense, and the gameplay is obvious -- you have lots of guns and ammo, and the enemies just keeping coming at you in every single level. Multiplayer is great just like on PC, you play a co-op mode to clear the level faster (or head to head in split-screen mode).

This is a very long game because they combined SS1 & 2 from the PC into a single Xbox game, which means you will be playing this thing for HOURS. You might think you'd get bored but you don't!

Serious Sam

Strengths: Frantic gameplay, humorous, lots of stuff to shoot, lengthy

Weakness: No Xbox Live support, some screen tearing

Serious Sam is an anything but serious first-person shooter. This game has great fast-paced and frantic twitch gameplay. There are literally hundreds of enemies swarming you at all times and it is your job to make sure every last one of them is thoroughly exploded into little chunks. The enemies are absolutely hilarious and Serious Sam's one-liners are humorous as well. The graphics are a bit dated, but they are meant to be cartoon-like so it's not a big distraction. There is some screen-tearing, but I got used to it fairly quickly. There is a nice assortment of crazy weapons from rocket launchers to chainsaws and you will definitely need to use them all to get through this game. Another nice thing about this game is that it is actually both of the PC games in one. That means you get both Serious Sam 1 & 2 for one low price. That also means that this is an extremely long game.

In the end, Serious Sam is by no means a perfect game, or a game that requires much thought, but it is so fun that you won't even care. That's why I can look past the imperfections and give this game a 5 out of 5.

Serious Sam

Strengths: great fun shooter

Weakness: no xbox live

I first purchased this game for the PC and liked it so much that I purchased it for the xbox so I could play it with the controller instead of the mouse and keyboard. It has really great graphics, a variety of monsters, and weapons, and good sound. I can't wait till Serious Sam 2 with Xbox Live comes out. The game is under 20 bucks and if you like fast paced shooters set in Egyptian pyrimids like environment I recommend buying it.

Serious Sam

Strengths: Awesome weapons, fast-paced action, lots of monsters to slaughter

Weakness: Extremely long load times, problems with system link

Even though you're faced with vast amounts of monsters at any given time, the game does well enough with frame rates, but there are occasional hiccups. Large maps are perfect for the endless onslaught of enemies to battle.

The weapons are nice, with over 12 to choose from. You can even map 2 of them to the X- and Y-buttons for quick changing on the fly. The co-op missions are quite fun, as well.

For those of you with little kiddies around while you play, you can tone down the gore with the "hippie" mode. The monsters will bleed flowers and confetti when you blast 'em.

Serious Sam

Strengths: Decent shooter for Xbox

Weakness: Other shoots are much better

This game is alright. There's really nothing special to say about it. It's just an alright shooter, with alright controls, alright graphics, and an alright story line. It's kind of cartoony, but it's also one of the first games released with the console. It's worth the small amount of money it costs now.

Serious Sam

Strengths: Serious action equals serious fun.

Weakness: Not a game for thinkers.

You know Halo, right? It's got a story, it's got some strategy involved, and it makes some attempt at believability. Serious Sam has none of that. It's all about fast, ridiculous action, plain and simple. And it's a great time.

If it moves in Serious Sam, it wants to kill you. So, you kill it first. There's plenty of ammo and health lying around, and thousands upon thousands of enemies to kill. Across a massive 36 levels (spanning both The First Encounter and The Second Encounter PC games), your job is to get from point A to point B, killing everything in your way. It can get very challenging, and there's never a dull moment. You'll never wonder which way to go, since doors usually close behind you and won't reopen.

This game is ridiculous, and it knows it. Sam spits out one-liners at various points, but never repeats himself, because Croteam knows as much as you do how annoying that would be. Headless enemies holding bombs run at you, screaming... somehow. Rooms fill with frogs, and you get a meter of how many frogs are left before you're done, while hard rock plays in the background. And just for fun, your revolver never runs out of ammo, so you don't have to resort to the chainsaw if you don't want to... but perhaps you will, just for fun.

Co-operative mulitplayer is a lot of fun, with two people on one Xbox or up to eight over system link. Deathmatch is really, really simple, and not as hectic as the single player, so I recommend sticking to co-op.

If you want fast first person shooting action, come here. It's that simple.

Serious Sam

Strengths: Interesting Guns

Weakness: A little too cartoony. Graphics

This game would be great for a much younger audience who are still old enough for a first person shooter. Much like the Early Doom series or Duke Nukem this game's graphics aren't really the best especially since it is on the XBOX console. 4-Player Free For All games aren't too bad, it's really just kill or be killed because all the guns are intense. If you are tired of playing Halo, or are a younger player, this game wouldn't be too bad. But really... who gets tired of Halo?
