Darkstalkers makes its debut on PSP!

Strengths: Looks stunning on PSP

Weakness: Questionable story

Darkstalkers holds a special place in my heart because it is one of the early fighters that I actually played. Now, Darkstalkers makes its debut on the PSP in time for launch.

The controls are pretty good. The game is responsive to most of the moves I try to pull off and it was a concern of mine when purchasing this game. Rest assured, however, it plays nicely on the PSP.

The sound is pretty solid and fits the game very well. The graphics are especially nice partly because of the PSP's vivid screen. It is definitely one of the better 2D fighters visually.

Other than that, the game is your basic fighting game. It has a decent selection of characters and some unique modes.

In conclusion, the game is a nice 2d fighter and is a good sign of things to come for the platform. I definitely recommend this game to fighter fans.

Classic 2-D fighter for your handheld

Strengths: Incredible 2-D sprite graphics, Good gutiar rock sound

Weakness: Poor gameplay, not much lasting replay value

Capcom is one of the kings of 2-D fighters and Darkstalers for the Dreamcast was one of the best. This update for the PSP has great style and character graphics. About the best 2-D spites I have seen. The music is good also. But the controls in my opinion weren't as good as other fighters I've played. There aren't many times you will play this again on your PSP so it is limited in play value. The lack of PSP games out now and the recent drop in price for this title makes this to me a must own for your PSP collection. That is if you have 2-D fighter nostalgia.

Great Game - Bad Controls By Default

Strengths: Graphics are perfect and so is the sound. The Chaos Tower is a cool mode that will require the player to learn a lot about the game.

Weakness: The controls.

This classic fighting game would have been perfect had Capcom spent more time play testing the controls for this game, which hold it back tremendously. The graphics looks spectacular on the PSP screen, stretched or not (when not stretched to fit the screen special borders are used to fill in the space), and the sound effects come out so clear and crips and bold. The lack of a color-edit mode like on the Dreamcast Darkstalkers compilation is a bit of a disappointment, as well as the lack of an infrastructure mode (the Dreamcast had a match making service for it's Darkstalkers compilation). However there is of course Ad-Hoc multiplayer. The Chaos Tower is a really cool mode where you take on different opponents in a survial like tourny with each match having it's own rules like no kicking or no blocking. With each match you win you recieve a piece of gallery art. In the Gallery mode you can view said art, music, and ending movies. There's also Training in the game too.

However, with all of these extras the shoddy controls will probably prevent you from getting the most enjoyment out of it. Quarter-circle motions on the D-Pad rarely recognize the diangnol direction. Jumping forward is more like walking and then jumping up and forward. There is a simple mode that just use four face buttons but this doesn't make D-pad motions easier!

This would have been the perfect launch title for the PSP but because of the controls it won't be remembered for much.

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower

Strengths: Good port of excellent Dreamcast title

Weakness: Controls don't map well to PSP

While I'm not a big fan of fighting games I take it that the Dreamcast was THE machine for 2D fighters. This game is a ported 2000 Dreamcast title in which you can fight characters like Dracula and Frankenstein. The character designs are striking and the graphics excellent for a 2D fighter. In some respects, it is these excellent 2D games that we are getting now for the PSP and DS that make those handhelds so much fun - as opposed to the attempts at emulating (not so well) the 3D capabilities of their console cousins.

The only issue is the control scheme as mapped to the PSP. This continues to be an issue with many games coming over from consoles to the PSP or DS. There is simply no substitute for the original console controller the game was designed for.

Darkstalkers

Strengths: Good 2-d Fighter for the PSP - Graphics are pretty - Some tricks to keep the single player occupied.

Weakness: No widescreen support for a widescreened portable system!

I picked this game up for $10. I wasn't looking forward to a fighter on a portable system, because most of the fun of a fighting game is multiplayer. And since I don't have any friends with a PSP , it would be just me playing. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the Chaos Tower mode, where you pick 3 characters and then fight, sometimes with certain restrictions. This mixed it up a bit. Darkstalkers characters are over-the-top and always fun to watch and play with.
It was worth my $10, but anything more than that I probably would have shied away from.

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (PSP)

Strengths: Awesome graphics. Fast gameplay. 5 game modes.

Weakness: None

This game was awesome. Being a Street Fighter player for many years, I found this title to be great. The Darkstalkers crew is back. Graphics were crisp. Sound was great. Easily, one of the best fighters for the PSP.

A worthy addition to the Darkstalker series

Strengths: Held the title of "best PSP fighter" for quite some time

Weakness: Will be dethroned by Guilty Gear

If you're looking for a worthwhile fighting experience for your PSP, Darkstalkers is the clear answer. It's basically the best fighter available for the system right now, but that doesn't say much. The main problem with the game is the control, which is more a problem with the PSP itself than with the game. In all it is one of the few PSP games worth owning.

darkstalkers

pretty good game, great art work cover. It is a fast paced fighting game so you can not go wrong there. The UMD casing is strong and the disc is well protected. Pretty good game for the PSP, i'd suggest picking it up for a deal.

Darkstalkers

Strengths: Graphics

Weakness: Controls

This game is like a port. A port from the Dreamcast version. For the controls, special moves are hard to do especially for combos also. Don't play too long or your thumb will get blisters. If anyone likes fighting games for a portable system, you might want to pick this up.

portable Darkstalker!

Strengths: includes every useable Darkstalker

Weakness: load time, no widescreen, lose control

Capcom brings this Darkstalker collection. This game has every single Darkstalker, and it is one of the better 2-D fighting collection. However this port is very sloppy. There is no widescreen mode, and the control is a bit lose. The loading time is also very annoying for a portable game. Those minor things really bring this game down.

Just an okay game

Strengths: Works very well with Psp

Weakness: dated game play.

This game is okay, it's not horrible or great. The fighting graphics are okay, but are dated. The characters are alright, but it's should be more. It's seems to be just an updated Darkstalkers 3. This could be better.

Darkstalkers

Strengths: Descent Graphics. Very colorful. Cool characters. My kid loves the game. Not too gory

Weakness: Outdated Graphics. Combos don't always work.

Inexepensive game. But not very challenging.
I liked the game. I loved the original Darkstalkers and this update is true to the original. I just wish they could have done more with the graphics. This is one of the earlier games to come out for the PSP. It's a great starter game if you just purchased a PSP.

A Darkstalkers Fan Dream Come True!

Strengths: Every verion of darkstalkers included.

Weakness: Load times, and some moves are a bit difficult to pull off.

Darkstalkers for the PSP is a 2D fighting game, in the era of 3D fighting games, this game may not be for everyone, but this is a game that 2D purists will enjoy. The game is developed by Capcom so the controls are your typical Street Fighter fare, you fireball, dragon punch, hurricane kick, etc. You have your garden variety monsters Dracula (Demitri) Frankenstein (Victor), a Mer-man, a Wolfman, Red Riding Hood, and others. The difficulty is moderate and it is great fit for people or aren't into fighting games or 2D fans.

The complete Darkstalkers

Strengths: Beautiful 2D Animation, a good amount of fan service unlockables, wireless online multiplayer

Weakness: Not optimized for the widescreen

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower is a great collection of the Darkstalkers series that has been overlooked for years. Darkstalkers has the same over-the-top style of 2D fighting that many have grown to love in the Marvel Vs. Capcom series. All the fighters control with standard Street Fighter style, but the number of special moves is astonishing. This game lets you play through perfect arcade ports of Darkstalkers, Night Warriors, and Darkstalkers 3 with characters from all three games. The added Chaos Tower mode is a nice addition where you choose three of your favorite fighters and work your way through fights with certain restrictions (like no punches or no kicks). As you advance along in this mode you unlock pictures in the gallery.

The only negative to this game is that it wasn't optimized for widescreen. Capcom instead chose to just stretch the original games to fit the screen. You can play in the standard aspect ratio though if you want to.

Overall, I think this is a great package for fans of the series and a great intoduction for those just starting out.

Darkstalkers Chronicle

Strengths: Really good 2-d graphics.

Weakness: Controls are a bit off.

Capcom can make some fun fighting games, and Darstalkers is one of them. Plays alot like Street Fighter, only with mummys and succubus's instead of karate experts and boxers. The PSP redituion features really fast loading, excellent graphics and a lot of gameplay modes. Darkstalkers one true fault is it's controls -- the d-pad isn't nearly as fluid as it could be.

Decent fighting game... That surely lives up the...

Strengths: Great Animation! Great Launch Titled for the PSP! Great beat-em up for a quick play anywhere...

Weakness: More of the same... No much to look forward to deside being a portable version.

Darkstalkers Chronicle for the Sony PSP! A decent game at most. I would not say this is a much have game for the PSP. A rental at most. unless your a diehard Darkstalker fan!

Pros: Quick Load Time! Excellent Music Score! Really quick game whenever you need it! Amazing smooth Graphic & animation! Lots of Fighter to pick fro & some extras to unlock! being a portable version.

Cons: Game controls isn't all there ( Not as responsive as the Saturn Version ), More of the same darkstalkers game over & over agian!

Overall: 3 OUTTA 5 STARS (Pick this up if your a die-hard fan of the series)

Handheld fighters

Strengths: Fighting game for the PSP

Weakness: Not a great fighter

This is the best fighting game for the PSP Handheld Entertainment system.... but that's only because it's the ONLY fighting game for the system. Darkstalkers has never come close to offering the high degree of fighting provided by the Guilty Gear or Street Fighter games. Instead, it offers a mildly enjoyable fighting game, even though the controls feel a little cramped due to the layout of the PSP. Worth it for fighting game fans, but for everyone else, just wait until a truly great fighting game comes out for the PSP.

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower

Strengths: Good fluid 2D graphics. Plenty of unique characters to play as. A game you can play quickly and for short times.

Weakness: Controls hamper gameplay.

I like 2D fighting games and this is the only one available for the PSP right now, so this will have to
do for now. Everything about this game is good (graphics, sound, fighting system,...), everything except controls. Which may not be the fault of Capcom but the system itself. First time I played the
game, I couldn't do many of moves, not because I don't know how, but because my directional pad was so
tight. Giving this more time, I've figured out how to rest my thumb to do most of the moves but I still have difficulty jumping diagonally, sometimes I would jump just straight up. Guess more practice is needed...

Owning a PS1 and PS2 and most of the Capcom fighting games, I know the Playstation controller is not the best for these games. And on the PSP that's the same case, but unlike its console brothers, I can't just replace the controllers with one that works better.

Overall, this is a very good fighting game hampered by potentially bad controls. Rent to see if you can
live with the controls before buying.

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower

Strengths: An arcade perfect port of a great 2d fighter

Weakness: None.

Darkstalkers Chronicle: Chaos Tower on the PSP is an arcade perfect port of the popular Darkstalkers franchise. Capcom has ported this perfectly, with every frame of animation and move making the transition flawlessly. A large and diverse cast of very interesting characters, they just don't make fighting games like this anymore.

The graphics are crisp and clear, and it is a great game to pick up and play for a few rounds. Highly recommended!

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower

Strengths: Compilation of all Darkstalker games, 2D fighting game goodness, graphics.

Weakness: Could've implemented the use of the analog nub due to PSP machine issues.

This game is basically the complete anthology of all Darkstalker games from past to present combines in one neat package. This series has been one the the top 2D fighters ever made. If you've played Street Fighter then you basically have an idea of how the game plays since they're very similiar but you use "Hollywood" monsters instead. The graphics transferred over well onto the small screen and looks more vibrant than ever.

Beautiful remake of a good series even though it maybe overlooked due to its more popular sibling, the Street Fighter series.

Using the PSP dpad makes it hard to do special moves (it's more of a hardware problem but it does detract from the gameplay a bit).

A lot of extras to unlock though they really don't affect gameplay, just some really neat artwork Capcom threw in for fans.

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower Review

While Darkstalkers is a title fans like myself will surely appreciate and newcomers can enjoy, one has to wonder why now? Five years after this title's first release and over 11 years since it started in '94, a few problems plague this title as they have the other compilations such as Marvel vs Capcom 2. That is, many of these sprites are simply showing their age. Thankfully on a new system, with...

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower

My PSP is still smoking, I just got done giving another run at the Chaos Tower and failed a mere 21% into the melee. Fingers blistering, eyes watering from failure to blink and forearms cramping. Yes, the game moves at one speed... all-out. Featuring quite possibly the oddest collection of mutants, monsters and occult characters, Darkstalkers PSP proves that there is still life in what was once...
