PS3 40G consoleStrengths: Quiet, less heat than other PS3 models Weakness: not compatible to old PS2 games PS3 is a great console. I indeed like playing this over Wii. The main reason is that I can download playable demo of new games, such that I can try playing to see which games I really like to buy it. In addition, being a Blu-ray player is a plus. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Playstation 3 40GBStrengths: Blu-Ray HD, 1080P Weakness: Cost of console and accessories (i.e. extra controller & remote) The Sony PS3 is an awesome do everything home entertainment unit. For the price of a stand alone BLu-Ray player, the PS3 is the way to go. Beautiful Blu-Ray playback in full 1080P HD. Also once connected to the internet, the firmware stays up to date and one can purchase additional games, view movie trailers and surf the web. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Good for both blu-ray and game playerStrengths: PC+blu-ray+game Weakness: pricey for game and blu-ray disc PS3 is pricey, but a side-by-side comparison with Xbox 360 reveals it’s a better value. Included on the PlayStation 3: Integrated Blu-ray player, web browser, and WiFi. 80% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Good entertaintment system, overpriced however BLU...Strengths: Blu Ray playback, easy PSP like menu Weakness: No HDMI cable included, cannot play PS2/PS1 games unless you buy the high end 80GB edition. Excellent for playing Blu Ray movies, includes a Wireless PS3 Sixaxis remote, however I have found the cable to charge it to be too short. 67% of readers found this review helpful. Great Christmas Gift!Strengths: Amazing quality, sleek design, no memory card, wireless-awesome system. Weakness: A bit expensive. I didn't have a problem getting it to play ps2 games, they worked just as well as the 3s. It's really a cool system, now we are getting a HDTV so that we can use the blue ray feature to it's fullest (you can't see a major difference unless you have the "whole" system). Can't wait to watch 300 in HighDef! 67% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

The BestStrengths: MLB games the best on PS3 which is exclusive, built in wi-fi, free online gaming, GTA IV and Gran Turismo 5, upgradeable HDD. Weakness: No PS2 support but not really needed I owned my Xbox 360 first got the Nintendo Wii second and got this 40gb PS3 on christmas. The Xbox died 3 times and Microsofts support people are rude and stupid I got back an old console and it sounds like a lawn mower. My PS3 on the other hand is great, silent, and shiny. The blu-ray makes a big difference in HD and I just love MLB 08 the show for PS3 best baseball game thats a sony exclusive. That could be one reason but theres the new dualshock 3 which is great though it should have been included once the lawsuit was over with the immersion people but thats ok. Grand Theft Auto IV should only be played on PS3 Its the best, but the online was sluggish but an update fixed that only 60gb ps3's still have problems with gta. I actually use my ps3 more than my 360 and I have more 360 games. This is just a more enjoyable system, and if you ever had a psp or used one the gui/os is almost the same except some added stuff. Online gameplay is free no paying for xbl like I do but stopped since then. Buy this and you won't regret it. Also if space is necessary they have 2.5 sata hdd that fit I have 160gb but they go up to 500gb! PS3 is king and has no internal problems for what your paying for!!! 60% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

No PS2 playStrengths: Nice on line interaction Weakness: Cannot play any of our PS2 games on it as it was advertised it could. Am very disappointed that PS2 games connot be played. That was one of the main reasons we decided to buy this system over the others. Hope they came out with a software patch that will allow it to work as claimed. 50% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great for Home TheaterStrengths: Blue-Ray Disc Player Weakness: Cannot really be used as a Linux box (very limited graphic support then). The PS3 has been connected to the home theater in my barn, hd projector, 100 inches screen, 7 speakers surround sound... 50% of readers found this review helpful. PS3 40gb w/ Spiderman BluRay DVDStrengths: HD gaming, Blu Ray DVD player Weakness: Could've included the DVD remote instead of being a $25 option. This is a great system for a next generation DVD player. I received this as a Blu Ray DVD player and nbot mainly as a gaming system but I will be rocking out to RockBand once my local Circuit City has it back in stock. With this system you don't run the chance of having a $400 paper weight if for some crazy reason HD DVD wins the war (which I don't believe they will)you'll still have a great gaming system. Picture quality is incredible coupled with my Samsung 56" DLP HDTV with output ot 1080p. Who needs to go to a theater! This picture is way better than any local cinema. 50% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

PS3 and free Blu-ray moviesStrengths: Great graphics, free online play, Blu-ray player. Weakness: Games are a bit expensive, as are the extra controllers and other accessories. It scratches rather easy. This is a great product. The system was put together very well, it’s very sturdy. I loved playing Assassins Creed on it, it has great graphics. The Six-axis feature is very fun to use. Being able to play online free is also a big plus. This is a great buy, and I recommend it to anyone who likes consoles. 33% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blown Away!Strengths: all inclusive and does everything well Weakness: learning to use the remote :D I got this instead of a Blu-ray player. I am still learning to use it, but it is awesome. I am looking forward to getting it on the internet. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great, just greatStrengths: Great multimedia feature (DivX playback, web browser, etc), USB interface, and best of all, Blu-ray drive! Weakness: Lack of Dualshock 3 controller, Lack of killer title When Sony introduced PS3, they expected it to be not just gaming console but also a part of Home Theatre setup. All I can say is Sony really did well. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

40GB Playstation 3Strengths: Graphics, Blue Ray, Free Online Weakness: No backwards compatibility The 40GB PS3 is the way to go if you dont care about playing all your old PS2 games. I just picked one up today and love it. I dont like that they didnt include BC in all the versions but i wasn't going to play old games anyways so I save myself the $100 and went with this. I've played a few games and watched a Blue Ray. The blue ray looks incredible and the games look awesome as well. The six axis controller is very light weight and I'm liking this as well. I havent played online yet but signed up and it was nice not having to pay. You can download trailers and demos for free as well. So far a great buy. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Sony PlayStation 3 40GB Console w/Spiderman 3...Strengths: 40GB Storage capacity/State of the art gaming system/Built-in Blu-ray disc player/Wireless controller Weakness: Backwards compatibility/Included Spiderman 3 Blu-ray disc is only the version containing the movie, it did not include the version containing both the movie and the special features! This is the one of the best multimedia entertainment and gaming systems that I have ever experienced! The visual effects on the newer state of the art games are amazing and the picture quality on the newer technology Blu-ray movies is extremely amazing! The only thing that I was disappointed about was that the included Spiderman 3 Blu-ray disc was only the version containing the movie, and it did not include the version containing both the movie and the special features! I am an avid movie buff and a big fan of watching the bonus and special features and this was extremely disappointing, especially since this was a major purchase for me! Sony PlayStation 3 (40GB)
THE GOOD: Swanky design with quiet operation; all games in high-definition; PSP-like easy-to-use interface; plays high-def Profile 2.0 Blu-ray movies in addition to upscaling standard DVDs; built-in Wi-Fi; 40GB hard drive; online play is free; HDMI output with 1080p support; no external power supply. THE BAD: No flash media reader; cant play PS2 games; doesnt include rumble controller; a USB port... Top

Top of the line
Strengths: Sturdy/solid unit, very powerful, can be networked and can access the Internet
Weakness: A bit pricey, runs quite warm, doesn't play PS2 games (at least not the 40 Gb version, according to other reviews), only two USB ports so need USB hub for Rock Band
This is really quite an amazing product. This is very well built - no shortcuts on quality here. The unit is very sturdy and solid; this is not a cheap plastic box! What one really has here is a powerful computer packaged as a game system. The interfaces on this unit are sweet - USB connections for the accessories! For once Sony hasn't gone with their own proprietary interface. However, there are only two USB ports so for Rock Band, you will need a USB hub if you want more than two players. Be sure to get a US 2.0 hub since it looks like a USB 1.0 will cause problems. This system only comes with standard A/V cables so if you want HiDef, you need to buy a component or HDMI cable (this is where Sony did go with their own proprietary connections). This will cost at least $20 for the component and more for the HDMI. Also, this unit runs pretty warm. Be sure to use adequate ventilation.
