Soul Reaver 2: Legacy of Kain

Strengths: Storyline and Character Development are great! Play control is easy to pick up.

Weakness: none

Soul Reaver 2 picks up where the original PS game leaves off. Graphics are phenomenal and the movie sequences enhance the overall story. Action is fierce with new fighting moves and some incredible new characters such as acid and fire demons. The soul reaver itself is enhanced throughout the game as you learn new elemental abilities such as air, fire, light, and dark. If you liked the original Soul Reaver, you will love this game. A must have for Blood Omen fans.

Raziel Returns

Strengths: Nice graphics with high caliber acting.

Weakness: Gameplay is on the repetitive side.

I've played through all of the Kain/Raziel games starting with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and ending with Legacy of Kain: Defiance, so you could say I'm a bit of a fan here. The best part of this game is by far the voice acting. This is some of the best work I've heard, and there is a lot of dialog in the game. Soul Reaver 2 is very story driven, and you really have to pay attention to keep up. I strongly recommend that you have at least played the first Soul Reaver to understand what is going on.

If you've played Soul Reaver 1 then you know what you're in for here. The fighting hasn't changed much at all, and it has the same basic puzzles. Fighting is on the bland side. Not much for moves and the camera makes it more of a hassle than it should be. Most of the puzzles consist of pushing blocks around or flipping switches. The Soul Reaver has changed some. Now you don't have to have full energy to use it. Except now it slowly drains your health. The Material and Spectral Planes play a key role as they did in the first Soul Reaver, and add some uniqueness to the puzzles. When ever you lose your health while in the Material Plane you shift to the Spectral Plane. If you lose all your health there then you die. You can shift to the Spectral Plane at any time, but you must have full health and use designated areas to shift back to the Material Plane. There is even more to the two planes, but it gets covered in the game as you go through it.

Overall I really enjoyed this game. The gameplay has enough there to keep you interested the whole way through the game, and I really looked forward to each new cutscene to see what would happen next. I know I said it before, but Soul Reaver 2 has the best voice acting I've ever heard in a game. Action/Adventure fans will enjoy Soul Reaver 2. Just make sure to play through Soul Reaver 1 as it is a must to really understand the story in Soul Reaver 2.

.

Strengths: excellent controls, great graphics

Weakness: short length of game

This is one of the better games for the PS/2, but not as good as Soul Reaver 1. It continues the complicated story of the vampire avenger Raziel and his quest to take vengeance on his former master Kain. The story line and writing is truly excellent and will draw the player into the dark world of Nosgoth. The graphics are a little better and more detailed than its predecessor, and the voice acting is also a top-notch, and not cheesy like many of the other games out there. The camera angles are also great and do not hinder you or blocke your view of the action which can lead to cheap deaths. But I do have a few complaints about Soul Reaver 2. First and foremost, is how short it is. The game will take you about only 12 hours to beat and there are no unlockables or new content to unlock, which thus kills the replay value. Also the first game played like Mega Man, in that once you beat a stage boss, you could gain his power like telekinesis or the ability to swim in water unharmed. But this game has no bosses, and thus no way to gain new abilities. There is also not much open areas to explore, which cuts down on the fun. There are also no power-ups to upgrade and make you a deadlier vampire. One more complaint is the inability to skip cut scenes; the first time you see the story, it's really cool, but when you have to see it for the tenth time, then it gets really irritating.

Soul Reaver 2

Strengths: Good storyline, great voice acting, plenty of action and exploration

Weakness: Levels can be confusing

Soul Reaver 2 is the sequel to Raziel's original quest that was on the Playstation and the Dreamcast. The story starts right where the first game ends and in typical fashion for the Blood Omen series, it is a very well developed story. The gameplay is easy to pick up and fluid. You'll be impaling and dispensing of a variety of enemies with all kinds of unique methods. Raziels abilities will improve as the game unfolds and it's just fun to run around as this character.

The only thing that holds this game back is level design. Like the first game, it is very easy to get lost and have no idea what you need to do next.

This is definitely a great continuation in the story though and is worth checking out.

Soul Reaver 2: Legacy of Kain

Strengths: +solid graphics, great voice acting +deep story +lots of bonus material

Weakness: -story is too complicated and someone can easily get lost -the "puzzles" are long and the levels can be confusing -poor fighting system

Don't let the cover fool you, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 is more of an adventure game emphasizing on the characters, story, and finding your way through mazes and puzzles than an action game.

This game is a sequel so obviously the characters (two vampires) and the story of revenge between Raziel and Kain have already been established. The story is well done but is also very complicated so if you didn't play the first Soul Reaver, you can easily get lost. Fortunately the game has a ton of text summaries of everything that has happened.

While the story is intriguing I can't say that about the gameplay. My first rant is that it was hard to know what my objectives were in a given stage. There are lots of times where I would just wander around hoping that I would find the end of the level. The second weakness is that the battle system in Soul Reaver 2 is very simple and just not that fun. To kill enemies you just dodge their first attack and then pound away at the attack button.

If you like a deep involving story then I would recommend this game; the story is really the only thing that keeps me from giving it a poorer rating. A very similar game to Soul Reaver 2 is Primal, so if you liked that game you'll like soul reaver 2.

Soul Reaver 2: Legacy of Kain

Strengths: Fantastic sequel to Soul Reaver, great graphics and sound, amazing voice acting, great action

Weakness: None apparent

Soul Reaver 2 is a sequel to the first game on the Dreamcast, picking up from where the first one left off. The story is as great as the first game, with enthralling narrative with great voice acting, backed up by great graphics, sound and music. The action is top-notch as well, as good as the first game, if not better.

Fans of the first game should get this without question, as well as action fans.
