Strengths: Fun arcade soccer, great multiplayer!

Weakness: CPU difficulty ramps up as you progress through the different cups.

Mario Strikers Charged is the sequel to Mario Strikers for the Gamecube. I haven't played the original so review does not compare the two.

MSC is another sports game from Nintendo starring Mario. Here you can call upon shells, bananas and other special items to help your team out. It's basically Mario Kart but on the soccer pitch. Speaking of soccer, this game feels more like a hockey game because of the slide tackles and big hits one can make.

The controls are pretty easy to learn. I won't go into the more traditional controls. While on defense, you can waggle the Wiimote to initiate a big hit, which is a hard tackle on the opponent. If the particular character has the ball, they'll definitely lose it. There is also defending the goal from megastrikes. If the opponent's captain is able to pull this off, the opponent will get a first person perspective of the goalie. Here you'll point the Wiimote to control the goalie's hands to block incoming shots by hitting the A button. The Wiimote functionality don't feel rushed and tacked on.

Overall this game is a lot of fun, especially if you play against other people.

Great fast paced game!

Strengths: Soccer on the Wii, Online Multiplayer, Familiar Characters, easy controls

Weakness: Steep learning curve to playing online. Some characters have unfair advantages against others.

This game is tons of fun, especially if you like soccer. Depending on your character, your gameplan can be very diverse. The power shooters are tough to play against online, but if you know how to play good defense you should be okay. This game is very fun and addicting, well worth the price tag. Even playing singleplayer is fun because you unlock characters and new stages. I would give this game a 9/10 its that good!

Another fun title for the Wii

Strengths: Sharp graphics, fast paced, fun and addictive

Weakness: addictive, Actually the one real weakness I see is that you can only have one single player "season" going at a time.

Let me start by saying that I have never played a mario strikers game before this one and also I am not really into soccer or hockey. I got this game because I heard it was a lot of fun and I am not disappointed.

This game is great for single player and gets even better with a room full of friends. The online play is smooth but you are playing with people online so you probably know what that comes with.

Fantastic Game

Strengths: - great game play! - fast paced and chaotic (in a good way!) - lots of multiplayer fun

Weakness: - none so far

This game is just great. It's fun, exciting, and always gets some great laughs. The best part of this game is probably the multiplayer -- having a bunch of people in the room enjoying the chaos is just something else. Being the first wi-fi enabled game as well makes this game a must have. Go get it now!

Mario Strikers Charged is my favorite game so far.

Strengths: Clean graphics, intuitive controls, responsive controls, great color, easy concept, fun single-player, great for up to 4 friends, online matches, improvement in almost every area from Gamecube version

Weakness: Can't have more than one single player campaign going at once, not enough characters

I got this game the 2nd day after it was released in the US. The only reason I didn't get it the first day is because none of the stores had any!

After playing single-player, with some friends, and online, I'd say that playing with friends was the best experience. Here's why:

1. Single player - Although fun, I realized that I wanted to change my team halfway through the Crystal Cup (2nd of 4 cups). I couldn't because that would mean starting all over beginning with the Fire Cup (1st of 4). Not cool but oh well.

2. With friends - This was great. We were all bad at first and progressively got better - very quickly. It was fun and there was a lot of trash talking

3. Online - I'm glad the Wii finally has an online game. That said, the internet isn't all that great. Like anyone who's ever been to a forum will attest, people who are online are retarded. There are a couple cheap ways to score goals and trust me, they'll do it.

I made comments about my gameplaying experience because much of the other stuff I covered in the strengths and weaknesses section. Have a good time with this great game!

My Favorite Soccer Game

Strengths: Fun; great graphics

Weakness: none

I have tried several soccer games on different platforms and never feel soccer games are interesting. Mario Strikers Charged (Wii) is quite amazing. It is easy to control, fun to watch the special effects (like megashots for example), and is able to play with people online. Highly recommend to try it even if you are not a soccer fan.

Nintendo Wii Mario Strikers Charged

Strengths: Mario Strikers Charged has solid online multiplayer against random people and great offline multiplayer.

Weakness: You have to re-enter friends codes of people you're already linked to on your Wii. Just because a few friends are in your Mii Plaza does not mean that they'll show up once they buy this game.

Anyone who enjoyed the last Mario Strikers game will find Mario Strikers Charged to be an improvement. This is the first Wii game to do online play and do it well. Those looking for a deep and entertaining single-player experience won't necessarily find it here, but anyone out for some good, solid multiplayer fun, either offline or online, would do well to check out Mario Strikers Charged.

One of the Best Wii Games

Strengths: Great online WiFi play, expanded single player game

Weakness: Not very elaborate single player

Mario Strikers Charged is the best online Wii game without a doubt (at the moment). This is such an improvement from the GameCube version in so many ways. Your teams are much more customizable instead of having just one "helper." Single player has been greatly expanded to include progressively difficult cups that have decent unlockables. This isn't a very good game to showcase the Wii controller as it lacks anything as far as motion control goes besides the goalie mini game and tackling opponents, but it's a decent showcase of online WiFi play. Although Nintendo still refuses to allow any sort of communication between players and utilizes the friend code system, online matches are more enjoyable than your single player AI battles. Overall a decent game topped off with a very enjoyable multiplayer experience.

Mario Strikers - Online

Strengths: Same crazy gameplay from the original, now with online

Weakness: As with most online games of this type, there are exploits

Mario Strikers was a great arcade soccer game for the Cube. It was somewhat underappreciated, coming near the end of the Cube's lifecycle, which is probably the motivation for this enhanced and online follow-up. Not much has changed, graphically or with the core gameplay. Added environmental variables and the ability to choose your wingmen individually are nice touches. Online is the big draw as we all know. The online works well, with little lag, but you tend to run into people who play simply to exploit any flaws in the balance of the game, tending to kill the fun for all involved.

At this stage of the game, you may not want to buy it if you're in simply for the online play, but single player and local multiplayer is as hectic and enjoyable as ever.

Strengths: Takes the very fun Super Mario Strikers game and adds bells and whistles (including online play)!

Weakness: Single-player gets very difficult and frustrating, online can have lag issues

Super Mario Strikers was one of the greatest 2-4 player Gamecube games. The arcade-style soccer game was a blast to play with friends and offered a nice, though shallow, single-player experience. Mario Strikers Charged, the sequel for the new Wii system, improves on many elements of the first game: the graphics are a bit better, the new fields have environmental effects which adds some variety to the game, and there is basic online play.

The single-player "Strikers Cup" is, unfortunately, very unbalanced and frustrating. As a Super Mario Strikers vet, I had no problem breezing through the first Cup in Strikers Charged. But the second (of three) proved nearly impossible to beat. I could get through the ten qualifying matches with little problem. Then you play a semi-final and final against the other top computer players. Finally, you earn the chance to challenge the "champion" of the cup (Bowser Jr in this case). You play 2 out of 3 and he is extremely difficult to beat. That would be fine if you could replay the match, but you are required to go through ALL TEN qualifiers and the playoffs again before getting a rematch. This takes 1-2 hours and after 4 or 5 attempts I gave up on this as it was too time consuming. I have yet to go back to the single-player game. This is unfortunate as I am unable to unlock the last two characters and some of the arenas for use in local multiplayer with my kids.

As a multiplayer game, however, this is an excellent title. You can play with up to 4 people locally and against a random person or someone from your friend's list online. You can also play 2-on-2 matches with 2 people on each system (2 in your house, 2 somewhere else). The online play generally works very well except for one inexplicable instance. Lag (delays) in online gaming are to be expected, but when they happen on the Megashots - where you control a set of hands with the Wii remote pointer functionality to block 3-6 incoming shots the lag becomes unacceptable. Since this is running entirely on your system (once the other player gets off the Megashot by charging their character's shot they do not control the actual 3-6 shots) it is inexcusable for there to be lag here. Many online players exploit this by getting off very quick megashots (the 3 or 4 shot variety) that in the single-player game or in local multiplayer would be a breeze to block, but with the online lag can be quite challenging.

Despite the two big issues I mentioned above, Mario Strikers Charged is still by far the best Wii sports game and has a decent online implementation (not all games have lag so that isn't always an issue) which is always welcome in Nintendo games. If you are a big fan of the Gamecube Strikers or new to the series this is a good choice for some multiplayer action.

More Charged

Strengths: Fun, frantic gameplay.

Weakness: Cruel single-elimination Striker Cup mode.

Mario Strikers Charged is not exactly a soccer game. However, it is a typically fun and accessible Mario sports title with several improvements over its predecessor, including a WiFi mode, more sidekicks, and more wacky violence. A highly enjoyable romp for several players, and a pretty fun game for one player.

Fast n Furious meet Shaolin Soccer

Strengths: Great graphics, lots of creativity, and tons of fun

Weakness: Gameplay can become quite chaotic at time. Megashots are repetitive (you expect at least 3 or 4 specialty for your leader instead of just 1).

I have not try the online multiplayer mode for this yet so I cannot comment on it. However, I try single player mode and vs mode and it does get tiring sometimes. The learning curve seemed easy but it's not, there are lot of tricks and tips one need to gather before one could completely master this game. The gameplay is quite fast and furious, and sometimes tracking down your player is a difficult task. Overall a decent mario track, but far from being one of the best.

Strengths: - Very fun for multiplayer - Easy to pickup - Graphics are impressive for the console - Online gameplay is well integrated - Impressive partygame

Weakness: - Too one dimensional to spend 200 hours alone with - Computer sometimes becomes impossibly difficult

Having left the Nintendo scene since the days of SNES, this was an amazing game for me to get re-accompanied with Mario and co. I have now owned this game for 3 months, and I must say that it has lived up to every bit of my expectations. At the time of purchase, I had envisioned this game as a game I could enjoy alone, and also an excellent party game. This has in fact been true, and some more.

First off, the gameplay has been very enjoyable (what I would describe as chaotic fun). The learning curve for the game is not too steep, so friends and family can quickly pick up the game and enjoy these matches. I've been told that if you're familiar with the likes of Mario Party from GameCube, you'll be able to pick up this game in no time. Next, the graphics of these games are fairly impressive for this particular console, although you shouldn't expect to see jaw-dropping cutscenes like those seen on the PS3 and Xbox360. What perhaps has impressed me most with this game though, is how easy it is to play an online match. I have never interacted with the online modes for Xbox or Playstation, so I cannot say for comparison. But the setup of this particular game was easy -- me and my friends were playing matches online in no time! One thing to note though -- in online gameplay, I did experience noticable lag in some arenas (none in others), but I am not sure whether or not this had to do with my internet connection.

In all, this is a fun game that will be worth your money. It shines in the area of multiplayer mode and online gameplay. However, for those dedicated "hardcore" gamers (looking to milk 200 hours out of single player mode), this game may be too one-dimensional and boring. Once the supermoves for each characters have been seen, nothing else really adds to the game. The difficulty does go up, but the game just becomes repetitive. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a casually fun single player game, and a remarkable party/multi-player game.

Nintendo WiFi connection at it's finest!

Strengths: WiFi FOR THE WIN!

Weakness: WiFi can be laggy, though!

Oh now. This is a FUN game! Easy to learn, easy to control..right there are 2 big factors in Wii games. "Will it control well?" "Will it be easy to learn?!" So yes, it's very easy to learn and it's very fun!

The single player is kinda.."Meh" because..well, it's hard!! You can play this with up to 3 other people. Yes that's not a "single player mode" but it's the championship mode that you do by yourself OR with friends. It's still HARD!

Oh the graphics are awesome on this game. The sound is too!
It's a fun game and if you have friends who have this game.. it's a blast..in the living room or over WiFi!

Great game that finally uses Nintendo WFC

Strengths: Online play, fast and fun gameplay, good graphics

Weakness: Online has some hiccups

This is a sequel to a great GameCube game and while it looks pretty similar a lot of the new mechanics make it play completely differently. The Charging aspect (you have to charge up the ball by passing it around or holding the kick button) makes it harder to get a goal than in the original and makes it take quite a bit more strategy. The new moves add to the gameplay and the variety of sidekicks with different movesets adds a lot as well. Overall it's a really fun game and it's great to play online (although the connections aren't always that great).

First online Wii Game

Strengths: Competetive

Weakness: Repetitive

After playing many many matches I can say that this is quite a fun game. The real upside to this is the multiplayer. The onlines modes are okay but they're way too simple in this day an age of whats accomplished in online gaming. It leaves a lot to be desired but for a first entry comes in as "good enough". My favorite mode is playing online with a friend against 2 other people online. Co-op is a blast. This game really shines with 4 people as well. Theres surprisingly a lot of strategy to this game and I must say I'm not a Mario Sports fan but it stole my attention for a good 2 weeks or so. Now its a great pick up and play game with guests.

Mario Strikers Charged for WII

Strengths: Great graphics. Great multi-player.

Weakness: Not great in single player mode.

Whether you're a fan of soccer or not, you'll love this game. It's very easy to learn. The multi-player mode is excellent. Mario Strikers Charged allows use of wifi to compete against on-line players. A great new feature allows you to shoot up to 6 goals at a single time.

Great Way to kick off, for real, Nintendo Wii Wi-Fi

This game is a blast. It is a fast-placed, explosive, hectic game from start to finish. The single player is great. But when the single player just isn't enough, the multi-player is there, with all of its Wi-Fi goodness. Finally being able to play a true Nintendo game over Wi-Fi is a dream come true. I am kinda disappointed though that there is no user-to-user voice communication. Overall, this game is a blast, with friends, and without.

Awesome revision to an old school game

Strengths: Great multiplayer action and fun

Weakness: A bit chaotic...not really a weakness

Good price, great game. I really enjoy the fact that it's Nintendo's first true online multi-player game. The gameplay is fun and a bit chaotic.

Most game-rating sites are giving it an 8 out of 10. I personally think it's just that good if not better.

Mario Strikers Charged is a great revision to the previous game, for the GameCube, Super Mario Strikers and came out in 2005.

Wow is all I have to say... In a nutshell, this game is incredibly challenging. The learning curve for the game is INSANELY High, and can cause PLENTY of Frustration, however, once learned, a victory can make you feel great! Wifi is very awesome too, great for that quick match you want. I would recommend this game to Anyone, not just sports fans, this game has it all. Expect a HUGE challenge.

An improvement over the original

Strengths: Fast paced fun, decent amount of characters and stages, can pick different partners.

Weakness: Megashots are a little ridicilous.

If you have played the original Mario Strikers for GCN, you know what to expect when playing Charged. It is just like the original except it has many more features. Basically the game is soccer with a twist. You also get "super" shots worth up to 6 goals in one shot. When one of these is attempted a mini game comes up where you use the Wiimote to block the shots. This game also features an online mode that seems to work quite well. Overall I recommend this game!

A Ton of Fun Despite Flaws

Strengths: Multiplayer, both online and off

Weakness: There is no way to communicate with opponents online and the unskippable animations are quickly become annoying

Super Mario Strikers Charged for Wii is a much better game than the already wonderful Super Mario Strikers. Charged uses the original Strikers as a base and expands on it in every way.

The first game only allowed you to choose one type of teammate to assist your team captain, and this choice had no real bearing on the game. In Charged however, you are given the option to choose each of your 3 teammates, and each teammate has different stats and abilities that add a great deal of strategy to the gameplay.

Where as the first game only shined when a group of friends gathered in the same room to play, the new online mode in Charged ensures you have a blast even when no one else is around.

There are only two problems with the game. First, there is no way to communicate with your online opponents, which is a big disappointment. Trash talk is half the fun of multiplayer games, so not offering any way to communicate seems like a huge oversight. The other issue is the fact that you cannot skip the intro animations a the start of a match or the super strike animations. These animations may only last for 5-10 seconds, but after you've seen them a couple times, they become very annoying. Fortunately, super strikes are rarely used when playing against skilled opponents.

Overall, this game is a ton of fun and I recommend it to everyone with a Wii.

Nintendo's first true online multiplayer game scores

Strengths: Online multiplayer is done well

Weakness: So much is happening during games that it sometimes gets overwhelming

"Mario Strikers Charged" will forever be known as Nintendo's first true online multiplayer game.

Its single-player campaigns are decent, thankfully with much more depth than the previous game, "Super Mario Strikers" for the GameCube.

Playable characters can be unlocked by winning tournaments, and cheats can be unlocked as well for scoring and defensive milestones.

There are many new stadiums as well as all the venues from the previous game.

The best part of "Mario Strikers Charged" is its multiplayer. Nintendo really pulled it off. It's easy to connect online, find an opponent and play a best-of-three.

It's immensely entertaining to know that you're competing against a real human online in this hilarious, over-the-top soccer game.

The controls can be frustrating at first, and very physically intensive. But it's a lot of fun, and the game looks and sounds great, too.

This is a must-buy for Wii owners.

Great game

Strengths: Very Fun

Weakness: Tiring

As many have played the previous version, this is the same idea but improved. It is a lot of fun, especially with multiple friends. The wii makes it interesting although it can be tiring after a while. Definitely good game to play.
