Monsters, Crops, and Bachelorettes-Oh My!

Strengths: Fighting adds a new twist to the harvest moon formula, the ability to make a variety of things form your home through the forge is a nice plus, similar harvest moon woo and farm formula, items stack.

Weakness: combat is simple, dungeons are small and easy to finish,no heart events, and few villagers events.

Rune Factory is a fun and engaging twist on the harvest moon formula that will keep players engage for hours on end. The addition of fighting shakes up the formula-but its a good addtion. In another neat twist you can catch monsters who'll give you products like milk, wool, eggs similar to harvest moon chicken, sheep, and cows. The monsters can also act like hm sprites and do tedious farming chores for you. So I would recommend this game to rpg, harvest moon fans.

Hoe, hoe, hoe the live long day

Strengths: New combat system, engaging gameplay, plenty to do

Weakness: Combat system is simplistic

Rune Factory contains many of the elements that have made Harvest Moon a thriving video game franchise. Like other games in the series, you have a plot of land and it is up to you to make of it what you will. Through decisions about what to plant and how to tend your crops, you will be able to reap harvests and sell your produce for money. That money can then be used to purchase additional types of seeds, farming equipment, etc.

All of that is old hat, but what's new is there is no a combat system. I personally found it to be a welcome respite from endless farming. You can now explore caves full of monsters and recover rare items unavaliable through other means. You can also befriend the various monsters who will then help you to work your farm, increasing its output.

All in all, there is plenty to keep you entertained in Harvest Moon. The game is straight forward and can be completed in a decent amount of time but will provide days of additional entertainment for completionists who must have every piece of equipment and every single monster.

Rune Factory - A Fantasy Harvest Moon

The Harvest Moon series has been around for 10 years now, having gotten its start on the Super Nintendo. Since then, installments of the series have appeared on most systems, console and handheld, and, well, the formula hasn’t changed a whole lot; aside from improved graphics and some minor additions and subtractions, the Harvest Moons of today play an awful lot like that first one on SNES. For...
