Finally a decent 3-D Sonic game

Strengths: It’s Sonic!, looks great, very entertaining

Weakness: Some control and camera issues

I am a big fan of the original 2-D side scrolling Sonic games and have been largely unimpressed with the previous attempts at 3-D Sonic games. This entry into the series is much, much better. In the Secret Rings, Sonic is constantly moving forward and you hold the Wii remote horizontal style and “steer” him much like you would in a driving game. This game also moves fast at times! So fast you seem to be just flying through the level. I was a little skeptical of this combination at first, but it works well. You have to shake the remote to home-in and attack an enemy while jumping; sometimes the timing is off on this and it doesn’t work exactly right, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not that big of a deal.

Other than the minor issues I have with the controls, the only other problem is with the camera. When you have to back-track for something, the camera doesn’t flip around so that you can see behind you. Instead, you have to remember what was behind you and hope that you don’t run into an enemy. This is probably my biggest gripe with the game, but it doesn’t ruin it for me.

There are also unlockable multi-players mini-games. These are pretty amusing, but not the best mini-games I’ve seen. I bought the game for the single player adventure, not the mini-games. Overall, I’d recommend this game for fans of the series and for those looking for a fun game. Despite its flaws, it is very fun and the graphics are absolutely gorgeous.

Classic Sonic + Wii = Fun!

Strengths: A return to what Sonic has always been about... FUN!

Weakness: Learning curve for Wii-mote.

In the past few years, we've seen all sorts of new things for Sonic and pals. We've even seen Shadow get his own game featuring (of all things) shooting and blowing stuff up.

For the first entry in the Wii, the Sonic franchise takes a step back and seems to re-evaluate everything. The game implements some RPG elements to Sonic's improvement, making the game pace and Sonic's abilities improve as you gain more comfort with the controls and the world around you.

That's not to say the learning curve isn't a little steep. For some, it may be a little discouraging using the Wii mote for Sonic at first.

The gameplay and fun factor involved with this game are definitely worth the time it takes to learn to play.

There's no reason Wii owners should miss SONIC!

Best console sonic game in quite a while, but that's...

Strengths: Fast gameplay, good RPG elements

Weakness: Still can't bring back all the old 2D sonic feeling

I've always been a fan of sonic games and played through every one that was released on the Genesis and Dreamcast. Since sonic was changed into a 3D game it has gone downhill. The Sonic Adventure series was too slow and the 360/PS3 Sonic had terrible control issues. This game (other than the GBA and DS 2D sonic games) comes the closest to the 2D sonic feeling since then. The speed of the 2D games is well represented in sonic and the secret rings since it takes an on-rails perspective, but that sometimes makes the game more frustrating than it could have been otherwise. Overall it's still a fun game and better than the other 3D sonic games, but it still can't match the fun that the old 2D sonic games had.

Sega Sonic and the Secret Rings

Strengths: Sonic Sonic Sonic!!!

Weakness: None

Good fun for gamers of all ages. Wii controls are not so hard to master, you need to use the wii-mote horizontally. This game has the best graphics that I have seen for Sonic in a very long time. I give Sonic 4 golden rings out of five. If you're a Sonic fan, then this game is a must have...

A return to what made Sonic great

Strengths: Gameplay, music, and replayability are much improved over the Gamecube titles in the Sonic series

Weakness: Controls can be difficult

All said and done, this title in the Sonic series is a return to much of the frenzied fun that made Sonic a big hit for Sega years ago. This is the first Sonic 3D title that has been actually worthwhile playing. 3D landscapes are very nicely done, and the game is challenging without becoming completely impossible.

Given that this is one of the first titles to come out on the Wii, there are a few control issues that sometimes get in the way. Really, only the 2nd & 3rd gen Wii titles will truly be able to take advantage over the controls, so it's hard to complain too much about it.

All in all, a good title and a good addition to your library.

If you are a true Sonic Gamer, you may like this.

Strengths: There are lots of missions. The graphics and color are very good.

Weakness: The different levels are very similar and the control is difficult.

This game may be frustrating and aggravating at first but, once you get past the intro. it got much more entertaining. The stages seem to repeat themselves. I love the music.

Sonic and the Scret Rings

Strengths: Innovative control

Weakness: Wii remote learning curve

Sonic and the Scret Rings is one of the best Sonic games on the market so far. Obviously, you control Sonic using the Wii remote. However, it is not always easy. There is definitely a learning curve involved to master Sonic movements. There seems to be a little inaccuracy with the control at times.

The story is simply and decent, typical of gearing towards a younger audience. Graphics is not something to wow about, especially after you've played another Sonic game on a PS3 or Xbox 360. It still looks better than the last-gen graphics.

Sonic And The Secret Rings (Wii)

Strengths: More like Sonic games of the past, looks and sounds good, good use of the Wiimote

Weakness: Wiimote has a little of a learning curve, camera issues, takes a while to get going

Sonic And The Secret Rings is one of the better Sonic games in the past few years. It's more like the 2D Sonic games of the past, though done in 3D, with the obvious camera issues, unfortunately. Using the Wiimote puts a new spin on controlling Sonic, though it takes a little while to get used to the controls, as well as getting the game up to frenetic fun. The game looks better than most of the Sonic games to date, with good sounds and good background music.

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Strengths: Finally, a decent Sonic game on a home console! Decent use of Wii controls.

Weakness: The flip side of the Wii control issue - sometimes things can be a little inaccurate.

Sonic and the Secret Rings is a solid title for the Wii. It is easily the best Sonic title in many years for a home system (the handheld DS game Sonic Rush is probably the best Sonic game of the last several years overall). In this game you control Sonic with the Wii remote held sideways and steer him through various worlds. The story is taken from Arabian Nights and you will find yourself in various locales from that fable. The steering control is good as you guide Sonic left and right, and also have the ability to stop him and go backwards in a fashion (slowly). You also shake the remote to attack enemies and it is this part that can sometimes be a bit wonky with the controller. A button press would work just as well, or even better, for this activity.

The game looks great and the frame rate holds up during the blazing fast later levels. Sonic gains new abilities all throughout the game and becomes faster and more powerful as you go. This provides an almost RPG-lite feel to the game. Each level has a number of challenges ranging from simply completing it, to collecting a certain number of rings or completing it in a certain amount of time. You need to clear a portion of the challenges to unlock the new level but can always return to complete all the challenges to extend the gameplay at the end. Overall this is a solid title that is well worth owning on the Wii. Those familiar with the Sonic Adventure games might be a bit disappointed that this game is "on rails" and no free exploration is allowed. However, this makes it more like the original 2D Sonic games and for some that will make it a more authentic Sonic experience than the Adventure games.

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Strengths: Sonic goodies

Weakness: Minor control issue

Sonic and the Secret Rings is a great game that takes advantage of the Wii remote control. The control is a little hard to master since Sonic is designed to run fast and you can't really slow him down but to steer him with the remote. It's difficult at first but after a few levels the game really starts to get better and more fun.

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Strengths: Nice graphics. Lots of fun. Very exciting and entertaining.

Weakness: A little hard to control at first. The music is weak. Not long enough.

It's a great Sonic game. You can really enjoy the speed though it's a little hard to control for me at first. Sonic runs too fast but you'll love it after some practice. The music is a little boring and the tory could be longer. Overall it's a good game.

Finally, a decent Sonic game

Strengths: Good graphics, the game JUST features Sonic, good use of the wii controls

Weakness: The game takes a few levels before it really gets fun

After a string of horrible games, Sega has finally gotten Sonic the Hedgehog right again. Doing away with all the other characters and just leaving us Sonic, they were free to focus on what really made Sonic great in the first place - speed. Sonic flies through beautifully detailed levels, and the Wii remote does a good job of controlling the action on screen. The only downside is that it takes a few levels to get some basic abilities for Sonic that makes the game really fun, but if you can manage to get through the first hour or two you will find a very fun platforming game with lots of replaybility and unlockables.

Sonic and the Secret Rings (WII)

Strengths: Competitive bosses, in game music

Weakness: Not long enough

There was a different villain in this game. There was good AI in this game. There was a party mode where you play mini games. Game play was easy with the Wii controller.

Sonic and the secret rings

Strengths: Good game.. use wii remote well

Weakness: not as fast as i thought it would be but maybe it will get faster as the game progresses.

I bought this game and have enjoyed it so far. The use of the nintendo wii remote gives a good spin on things. I am glad I bought the game and I would recommend it to any sonic lovers.

Sönic and the Secret Rings

Strengths: A Sonic game all about Sonic. He may be the only playable character, but with a built it RPG element the game is significantly more rewarding.

Weakness: Moving backwards could have been designed much better. Basically, you can't see behind you when you're in reverse and that leads to many "ah crap" moments.

GOOD: This is a solid Sönic title and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the classic genesis series because the Secret Rings takes back what it was all about. Speed. You start the game off at Lv.0 and basically are useless as far as end game content goes. As you complete new missions that become available you find little 'o sonic growing into something incredibly fun to play.

THINGS TO CONSIDER: The early missions in the game can be quite discouraging as everything feels awkward, jumps are weak and slow, delicate toward enemies, and overall very restricted. Give it an hour to breath and it comes together. This is not Sonic Adventure I or II. Don't expect too much of that. This game can be challenging.

BAD: The theme song for this game is by far the most annoying song in existance. You spend quite some time in the menus and it can really wear on you after awhile. Fortunately, each world has its own song and holds up to frequent play.

A GOOD 3D Sonic Game ?! ?! ?!

Strengths: + Fun + Nice graphics + Controls make sense and are easy + Feels good to enjoy a Sonic game, again

Weakness: - Sonic sometimes gets TOO fast, that it gets a bit hard to control - The voice acting is meh - The music gets annoying

It's about time that we finally got a 3D Sonic game that's actually fun! The learning curve is about 30 minutes, and it takes sometime to get used to..but once you get the hang of it, it's great.

There's even a whole chapter dedicated to training and learning your special moves. So they make sure you know what you're doing!

Overall, it's a great game. A few things are annoying but the good outweighs the bad in this game. Personally, a sequel could be even better if they just tweak this one up. That doesn't take away from the fact that it's a great game, and it's nice to enjoy Sonic once again!

Sonic and the Secret Rings for Wii

The most common complaint that critics cited against previous 3D Sonic games, most famously Sonic Adventure, was that the camera often didn’t point in the direction that they were going. The game was lambasted for this, and now it’s not uncommon to see new games with wonky camera systems to be mockingly compared to Sonic’s Dreamcast debut. But was the problem the game, or the critics...

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Let’s face it folks, the years have not been kind to SEGA’s little blue hedgehog that could. After some pretty dismal showings and ill-received 3D exploits (particularly the most recent fiasco on the Xbox 360 and PS3), it’s beginning to appear that Sonic has ran his course (pun intended). However, SEGA is looking to change all of that with his latest title, Sonic and the Secret Rings....
