Not for casual gamers...

Strengths: Very rewarding in terms of unlockable content, cool story and cutscenes. The most unique RPG experience to date.

Weakness: Cutscenes are not seperate chat box from regular chat box. You are unable to search for players by thier mission progress.

I just finished CoP last week, and when it was all said and done, I have to say, that was the most difficult RPG I've ever played through. It's hard as hell, and its a lot of fun! In CoP you fight Diablos, a large dragon "Ouryu", Omega and Ultima, and many other challenging bosses. If you don't play FFXI, to make this easier to understand, CoP is a game itself, a full story made up of missions that you do with other players. Think of it as a classic FF but you play through it with other people. Don't disregard CoP as a collection of new areas and monsters for "That online FF game." If you don't play CoP, you're missing out on one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made. (If it had Nobuo Uematsu's music... maybe it woulda been the best ;; maybe.) Ok now for the bad stuffs. There's only two issues I had with CoP, one little issue one huge issue. The small problem was that they don't seperate you from the game enough when you're watching a cutscene. The cutscene dialog is in the same box as the one where people in your party are going "OMG we just beat this boss! Wooot! talk talk talk talk!" maybe thats nothing to be upset about... but I hope this changes in the new expansion. The only big thing wrong with CoP is- in FFXI you can search players by name, level, race, country, job, and rank... but NOT by mission progress. This means that if you don't have friends who can help you or a static party with a large variety of jobs, its VERY hard to find members to complete missions. Square-Enix PLEASE change this! Alright well, I don't recommend you buy this game because I sense you know World of Warcraft is a more popular game right now. With that in mind, I'll leave you with a sad and awful fact to void anything nice you'de dare say about that game. Simpson's Road Rage is a "Greatest Hit" title. k, nuff said. bye now.

P.S. I'm Ryogo on the Fairy server, drop me /tell!

Needless but fun

Strengths: New beautiful areas, new monsters, more items

Weakness: An unneeded expansion

Players of FFXI know that the game is a great game with some flaws (that of course one can deal with). Chains of Promethia is simply an expansion onto the original which adds several new areas (some of them remain locked until you meet some VERY time consuming goals). There are also some new monsters and items which make it more interesting. My only gripe is that all of this... the expansion that is... is just unneccessary. They did nothing to fix the problems of the original and only added to make the game field a little more expansive and some unbelievably difficult monsters which could take hours upon hours to kill depending on how many people are in your party. Overall, I'd say if you're a huge fan of FFXI, this will give you more to do and explore, but if you're looking for something to fix the problems, this isn't it.

Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia (PS2)

Strengths: Graphic, Story line, and the new areas.

Weakness: I dont see any weakness

I have been playing final fantasy xi: Chain of promathia for the past year on my computer with the expansion pack. However, i dont have it on my Playstation 2. So i am buying it so that i can carry my ps2 anywhere and play this game anywhere i go. I like the game alot. It is very exciting and fun-the story line, the graphic and the people i have met online. I would recomend this product for anyone.
Example: I am on mission 4-3 of Chain of Promathia where i have to be in an alliance of 18 people to beat the boss.
it is so fun with meeting new people and actually fighting the boss with alot of people and sometimes i have friends that get on to play with me. It is very intense during the fight because we are fighting 3 monsters that have level way pass our.

Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia (PS2)

Strengths: Adds new areas. More items to aquire. More quests. More unlockables.

Weakness: Cost

This is the long awaited expansion to the online RPG by SquareEnix. This builds up on the FFXI game by adding new monsters, units, areas, and more items. The cost of the expansion will turn some people away. I reall y enjoyed the expansion pack due to the fact it adds more repeatable play. Since this is an online game, everything is dynamic. The extras add to the game yes, but I'd prefer a cheaper price.

Strengths: Many more accessable levels/areas, monsters and items.

Weakness: Only for advanced players, new and inexpirenced players are excluded.

This is an excellent add-on for advanced players who have explored Vana'diel to it fullest extent. This provides many new adventures, monsters and items, something like this is very rare on Playstation 2 RPG's. The is not for beginners, I found the install process to be long and tiring, overall this should have been a downloadable upgrade.

also, the first missions are 30capped..you dont have to be THAT advanced. The caps in CoP make it available for lower-level characters..you should beat CoP before making any comments

FFXI: CoP average

Strengths: unlockable content

Weakness: just another expansion pack

I was really looking forward to the expansion pack to have new areas to explore, contents to unlock. Similar to other FF games, music is always one of the things I expect to be awesome.

Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia (ps2)

The precedent established by Final Fantasy XI's first retail expansion -- Rise of the Zilart -- set the bar pretty high. But since it was bundled with the North American release of the game, most of us just took all of its great additions for granted. Chains of Promathia is FFXI's first retail expansion to be sold as a separate product on these shores, and if you judge it against what these...

Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia (ps2)

It's a difficult thing to review an expansion pack for a massively multiplayer role-playing game that's so enormous it would literally take us months to explore each and every section of it. Square Enix's Final Fantasy XI and its first add-on pack Rise of the Zilart, after all, were already huge; and throwing in 40 additional areas spanning four all-new regions only serves to make it even bigger....
