DDR Ultramix 2

Strengths: The best DDR mix available in the US.

Weakness: Missing some modes, but nothing too serious.

If you're into Dance Dance Revolution, get this game. If you have an Xbox and are thinking about getting into DDR, get this game. If you don't own an Xbox and really love DDR, it's worth getting an Xbox for this game.

Every mix of DDR is basically the same, except for the songs included. The thing about UM2 has over 70 songs, of which very few could actually be considered bad. It has songs you know, like Brick House by the Commodores, DDR favorites like Dam Dariram by Joga, and a whole mess of brand new songs that have never been in DDR before, in any country. These include both Konami originals and new songs they requisitioned just for this game. No matter who you are, you'll find plenty of songs that you like here, and if you want more, you can always hop on Xbox Live and download new songs, 5 for $5. They're all Konami Originals, but you'll be hard pressed to find one of the packs that won't give you your $5 worth.

UM2 has a few other modes, like various battle modes and Mission Challenge, but none are as much fun as the main Game Mode, so you'll probably be spending almost all of your time there. You can play online, which is pretty basic; host picks the song, everyone plays, highest score wins. There's also a four-pad Quad Mode, which is just like Doubles, but with one person on four pads instead of two. It's a fun novelty, although it plays exactly like Doubles.

To sum it up, you'll be spending all of your time in the normal Game Mode, but that's fine, because this is easily the best mix available for purchase in the US. In fact, I'd say it's the best in the world. Anyone even casually into DDR simply has to have it.

DDR Ultramix 2 (XBX)

Strengths: Very fun Dancing Game. Nice cell shading. Music was great.

Weakness: Some songs are very hard to dance to if your not a pro. The cost of the mat.

This is an awesome game. Bought this for my kids. I ended up playing it myself. This game has nice cell shading characters. Its a major improvement from the Playstation version. The fun factor is still there. Be warned, this game can be frustrating to those who aren't seasoned pros. It works well as a form of exercise since all the hopping and jumping. All I have to say is practice, practice, practice.

Time to get down with DDR Ultramix 2

Strengths: Definitely the best DDR game released for consoles so far; amazing visual presentation; plenty of gameplay modes; XBOX Live support

Weakness: Can be difficult for beginners

Konami's DDR Ultramix 2 takes a winning formula and adds a few more nice touches to make it the most fun, action-packed DDR game for the home console so far. With plenty of enjoyable tracks to dance to as well as tons of gameplay modes and online support, this game has a great replay value. It may be a bit difficult for a beginner to pick it up and get going right away. I'd recommend trying one of the previous games in the series before getting your feet wet with this one. However, once you get the basics down, you'll have a blast with this game.

Can such a game get even more niche?

Strengths: Amazing graphical effects; 4-player modes; online multiplayer

Weakness: Song variety; canned dance animations

My biggest gripe about the Xbox series of DDR Ultramix games is that the dancers all do the exact same dance all of the time, never really adapting to the type of song or beat, or anything dynamic at all. That said, the background effects and rendering effects are beautiful and far more dynamic than the dancers. Overall presentation is excellent.

This game is produced by Konami's American team, not the Japanese originators. As such, the song variety is less wacky and cheerful and more suitable for trance clubs. Unfortunately, if you're not a fan of trance songs and long for the whimsical light-hearted J-pop songs, you'll be sorely disappointed with the Ultramix series.

Dance Dance Revolution: Ultramix 2

Last year, when Konami’s Dance Dance Revolution hit the Xbox with the release of Ultramix, it did so in style. Ultramix featured a good mix of new, old and licensed tracks, an easy to navigate interface, and Xbox Live support. With these features, Ultramix stood as one of the best DDR games to come out in a while. With Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2 now out on store shelves, Konami is again...
