Tenchu: Stealth Assassins

Strengths: i would say that since it has been kept japanese all along, it has been able to show us a true japanese product without any adaptation (of course, the english/french languages had to be put in it)

Weakness: not as much techniques as in the 2nd tenchu

the tenchu series are fantastic. the first one being modeled entirely in japan (with some americans, perhaps even canadians and/or europeans) have allowed a different style of gameplay and strategy. you simply can't go in there and kick the enemy's behind, you got to really make your move stealthily (while in the 2nd, you at times feel like going in there and bashing the ennemy so hard). what i also appreciate is the fact that the music is divine and that there is an excellent training mode which isn't that easy, although i did master it, it took me several days, but it was worth it, because the pride is put afterwards when you finish the training mode at Grand Master. i must also admit the cinematics are beautiful and this word (beautiful) isn't one i use often, so for me to use it i have to have a good reason; and now is a good reason. there is more i could say- the fact that ayame uses 2 swords (also the 2nd one does and the future 3rd one, released in japan i believe), every damage she deals is 5hp, meaning after her normal 2 hits, she does 10hp damage (i believe rikimaru does 10hp or 15hp damage). i also appreciate the fact that ayame is faster with less damage while rikimaru hits harder but a bit slower.

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins

Strengths: Superior gameplay, innovative design, good graphics for the time it was released in.

Weakness: None, except for minor details.

Before I begin, I need to introduce a little bit of the 'new math' to my readers. That 'new math' consists of one equation: Tenchu = quality. Remember that. Tenchu not only carries some of the best gameplay created on the Playstation at the time (in what other game can you swoop down from a rooftop and kill an unsuspecting baddie? Certainly not in most games...besides Tenchu 2....), but it holds with it some quality graphic ability, matching that that was available at the time of Tenchu's release. With the freestyle-type gameplay, there are no time limits to meet, so you can kill your opponents with style and without hurry. For instance, the beginning level in Tenchu allows the player free range of the level, allowing them to select their own order of controlled mayhem before proceeding to the level boss. In fact, many of the levels are structured as such. With the use of several ninja tools, such as the poison rice (good bait for foolish rookie ninjas), the game gains itself a great replay value, and my 5-star rating. In fact, this game was so valuable to me, that once I thought that I lost it, I soon went out and bought another copy....but I found the original after a while...

Summarizing, Tenchu's nearly flawless gameplay and innovative style make it a must-have, even with the new generation of consoles dominating the market. Activision definitely outdid themselves this time.

Tenchu Stealth Assassins

Tenchu's the kind of game you would only find on a system such as PlayStation. Tenchu is a brand new kind of adventure game that has never been done before. You are a ninja and must operate strictly in the ways of a ninja----quietly, in the shadows, unnoticed, with cunning intelligence and speed.
