Harvest Moon DS

Strengths: Expanded gameplay when compared with older versions

Weakness: Constant restarts required due to inherent game glitch

Harvest Moon DS is very similar to the GBA version with a few upgrades. First, much like the music note aspect of Harvest Moon Megical Melodies for the Gamecube, there is now a storyline that requires the player to meet 100 goals. These goals range from fishing in certain places to shipping a certain number of crops to just walking around. They add more structure to the game, so those who don't want to play indefinitely on their farm will have an established end point to their game. It makes the game more fun.

The downfall of this game is major in my mind. There is an inherent glitch in the game that causes it to freeze regularly. It seems that the game freezes more so with longer gameplay. Many, many users have reported this glitch. The only way around it is to save, and save often. It gets very frustrating having to repeat gameplay if you haven't saved.

Overall, another good addition to the Harvest Moon series. However, the developers need to make sure that Harvest Moon DS for Girls (the next release) doesn't constantly freeze or I might consider hanging up my rucksack.

Harvest Moon (DS)

Strengths: unique gameplay

Weakness: not beginner friendly, weak story line

I have never played a Harvest Moon game before so this was my first experience with this farm simulation game. When I started the game - admittingly only glancing at the instruction book - I had no idea what I was supposed to do or how to do it. There was a story plot line scene at the beginning but not tutorial once the game handed control to you. I basically used trial and error and pressing every button and consulting the instruction manual to figure it out. It wasn't until later that I realized there was a sprite TV station that explained the basic.

Also, I thought the story was weak and not obvious how it related to what I was supposed to do. You bring back the fairies/sprites by performing actions/milestones in the game world but the story didn't really explain why this happened. You basically bring the fairies back by going about your farming business with no real sense of urgency.

I'm glad I picked up this game for very cheap otherwise I would be very disappointed.

Good 'ol Harvest Moon

Strengths: Very Harvest Moon, very traditonal in many ways! Also some new neat additions! Big back pack!

Weakness: The litter system is confusing. I swear I'm being penilized for throwing out weeds. That's new!

This Harvest Moon is a lot like the GBA version with a few neat additons! While this may disappoint people looking for something new, it will comfort people who are sick of new diffrent Harvest Moon games that seem to miss the point entirely. Same deal as the GBA game. Plant crops, raise animals, woo girls, ect. However, this time the game is much bigger. The neat part is that this takes place in the town from the GC game. It's neat seeing it in a sprite form. A new thing in this game is the Sprite Station. It's a TV channel run by Harvest Sprites. Find the sprites and you get more things to watch! All in all, this game is the basic reliable Harvest Moon plus some bonuses. Nothing lost by taking a risk, but no big developments.

A decent handheld Harvest Moon

Strengths: Many characters, with a crossover of worlds

Weakness: Not quite as polished as other handheld Harvest Moons

Harvest Moon DS did a lot of things right. It added characters and expanded the world (sort of). Too bad they forgot to program the game right! It seriously needed a few more months in the oven, but regardless it is still a worthy purchase for fans of the series, what with the ability to marry a mermaid and all.

Another harvest.

Strengths: It's Harvest Moon.

Weakness: It's basically just Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon is a good series of games where you basically farm and make a life. The DS version carries on that tradition. But there's nothing much new with the series. yes, it does have the touch controls. But its basically just a new Harevst moon Game. it's good, but if you've played a lot of Harvest Moon, you won't find much new here.

Comes Portable

Strengths: Raising crops and the casino are fun

Weakness: The glitch

If you ever played any of the other Harvest Moons, this game is alright. For those that haven't, think of it as a farm simulator, but more fun sounding than that. However, this game has quite a few glitches. Some you can take advantage of, some can hurt. I recommend going to gamefaqs and reading about them, and then make a decision. Other than the glitches, the game is decent.

Harvest Moon Nintendo DS

Strengths: There are plenty of things to do in Harvest Moon.

Weakness: The graphics have not improved from the GameBoy Advance version.

Harvest Moon DS is as solid of a farm simulator as it ever was. Diehard fans may still want to pick this one up to pass the time, and there is still nearly endless amounts of play time. If only it had a new look. Some gamers will feel like they just dropped their hard-earned cash for a game that feels nearly identical to a GameBoy Advance version that released three years ago. Give Harvest Moon DS a try at your own risk.

Charming game but gets tedious

Strengths: Fun Touchpad Controls

Weakness: Can only play as boy

In the Harvest Moon games, players live the daily life of a farmer, growing crops, raising livestock, and taking care of the family. The DS edition adds a few cool features using the touchpad screen. First off, it's a lot less annoying selecting tools from your inventory with the touch screen. Also, there are fun touchpad features for tending your farm animals (i.e. brushing your cows, using clippers to collect wool). Unfortunately, it still feels like Natsume could've done more to take advantage of the Nintendo DS's unique features. Overall, it plays pretty much the same as past GBA Harvest Moon games--fun but gets tedious quickly.

Same Old game

Strengths: More Characters

Weakness: Nothing New

This version of Harvest Moon does not bring much new to the series. The gameplay and other aspects of the game have barely been improved at all. It's still a good game, especially for fans of the series.

Missed opportunity

Strengths: Classic GBA gameplay

Weakness: Classic GBA gameplay

This is an opportunity wasted on the DS. The previous version of this game on GBA was much better and cohesive than this game. The controls are limited to the buttons and the touch screen is only with the exception of the inventory screens, other wise the second screen is used to dosplay graphics only. This a weak game at best for the Nintendo DS. This game does provide a few new story elements but nothing very important or significant, this is still a good game with all the elements that the GBA version has but it is not strong DS title.

It's time for the harvest!

Strengths: Classic 2D Harvest Moon gameplay, new gambling mini-games, good use of the touch screen

Weakness: Time goes by too fast, recycled 2D graphics, more of the same

Harvest Moon occupies a very niche market: the farming simulator. This version embraces the 2D design that works best for the series, and adds new things to pass the time such as the gambling mini-games and use of the DS touch screen for teleporting and remote farming.

However, because remote farming and teleporting do save time, the in-game clock goes by faster than in older games. Most of the games graphics are recycled from the GBA versions of Harvest Moon.

At its core, the game is Harvest Moon as its always been except this time you can play blackjack and video poker and make money a lot easier. For those with a DS, this version is better than the GBA version simply because it makes good use of both screens and the fact that playing GBA games on the DS doesn't use the entire screen. Considering this game is priced the same as most GBA games, it's an easy choice.

Harvest Moon DS

Harvest Moon has been an extremely long-running series with many sequels and spin-offs. You've most likely at least heard of Harvest Moon at some point, and have probably even played one of them. Its simplicity and charm has allowed it to survive this long, and the newest release, Harvest Moon DS, continues to keep the formula intact while expanding the gameplay. The "point" of this Harvest Moon...
