kick Butt

Strengths: It is fun and exiciting and I love it.

Weakness: there are none

It is intense and fun I give it 5 stars I would rocomend it to anywho who loves to play racing games. I like it cause were I live we have a town event that is demolition derbying and we have exhuast pipes sticking out of the hood too.

Test Drive: Eve of Destruction

Strengths: Lots of different types of events, wide variety of vehicles, fairly lengthy career mode

Weakness: No apparent difference in physics between vehicles, sense of speed is questionable

This is the PS2 version of Test Drive: Eve of Destruction. Although not as fun as the games in the Burnout series, this is still an entertaining game. There are only two modes, action and career. Action is your basic quick play. It has single or multiplayer with a wide variety of cars, venues and race types. Career is probably where you’ll spend most of your time. Like most race games, you start out with a clunker and work your way up with new cars and upgrades. There are quite a few different types of events as well as a few side races. The gimmick races are especially entertaining. The controls are very simple and driving mechanics are what your would expect from this type of game. This is by no means a driving simulator. All of the vehicles drive about the same and there is no apparent sense of speed. Overall, if you like crashing cars and keep your expectations low, this is an entertaining game.

Better than expected

Strengths: Fairly unique racing game, decent graphics, lots of modes, silly fun

Weakness: Lots of loading, not incredibly deep, questionable music choices, never get a really good sense of speed

I had read a bunch of reviews and wasn't sure what to expect from this game, but when it went on clearance at a local store I decided to pick it up. I'm quite surprised (in a good way) with this game. It's really a lot of fun, albeit in a strange way, even for demolition derbies.

You basically play at a series of different tracks, with different events available. One of the more interesting ones (to me) is racing with school buses; definitely not something you'd do in real life! That said, the game doesn't feel too much different in many of the modes, so it's not the deepest game.

This is not a serious racing game at all. The physics of driving are a bit strange at times; in many ways driving the school buses aren't too much different than driving any other car. But the game is definitely angled for arcade fun, so it's forgivable.

The graphics are pretty good and get the point across well. The only downside is there really isn't quite the sense of speed that would push this game over the top. Sound is similar-- it does what it needs to do, although some of the music is truly obnoxious. I know that's a matter of taste, though. I don't like the way the music fades before the announcer speaks, it's a bit jarring for some reason. There is also a lot of loading, which is unfortunate, and not always where you'd expect loading.

Overall, it's a fun game. I wouldn't pay full retail price for it but by now it's probably in a clearance bin at many local stores. At full retail price, I'd probably give it 3 stars, but for clearance prices it's more like 4 stars. Worth checking out for something a bit different.

Test Drive: Eve of Destruction

As any good fan of driving and racing knows, there are a ton of potential racing games out for the PS2 that you can select from, but unfortunately the titles that seem to really push taking a car and destroying it through derbies or high speed demolition racing are slim to none. The most recent entry into the market was Destruction Derby Arenas, which met with mixed feelings, so when you’re in...

Test Drive EveDestruction

At first, Test Drive: Eve of Destruction seems like nothing more than an unpretentious and shallow smash-fest. After all, isn't crashing and smashing cars an intrinsically enjoyable activity? You don't need depth when you've got car parts flying everywhere. Surprisingly enough, TD: EOD not only satisfies these hedonistic tendencies, it also delivers an interestingly deep and accessible gameplay...

Test Drive EveDestruction

Some days I feel like Rip Van Winkle just waking up some mornings and finding out some things had changed drastically. Watching poker on TV? C2 soda? Videogames that feature some redneck version of racing? And just like that, Test Drive: Eve of Destruction appeared in my life and proceeded to not exactly wow the pants off of me. If you want to see cars bash into each other, this game is for you....
