Thief: Deadly Shadows

Strengths: Amazing gameplay, great graphics and sound, well done atmosphere and scenery, open-ended gameplay

Weakness: Occasional graphic hiccups and framerate issues

The Thief series comes to the XBox from being on PC, and it does so in well-done style.

The graphics are done well in this console version of Thief, with some very well done scenery. The overall look is very well done, showing some amazing areas with great "atmosphere", giving the game a very immersive feel. At times, the framerate hiccups and slows down, thankfully it's a rare occurance. The sound effects add into the atmosphere, all of them well done.

Gameplay is a bit open-ended, with the ability to go out and just cause theivery and mayhem at random, though there are numerous missions to go on which advance the story line.

Overall, the game does well in the first person stealth action area, and with the open-ended gameplay, it gives some great replay value. Well worth picking up for any action fan.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Strengths: Good Stealth

Weakness: Not full of action, intended for Stealth

Theif Deadly Shadows is a very good stealth game for fans of that genre. Similar in ways to Splinter Cell, but not as polished. If you prefer going into battle and shooting everyone, this game may not be for you. A lot of great ideas are used in this game. It's an interesting game to play.

Stealth done well

Strengths: Amazing looking for its time. Stealth mechanic unmatched.

Weakness: SO dark! Sometimes Id pray for a break in all the slow, dark, trodding type action.

Thief is a game thats easily overlooked but shouldnt be. It was very solid on the PC and translates well to the xbox. It is dark and is full of stealth but its done well. (unlike many other games relying on the mechanic at the time) Its not of a huge length but you shouldnt feel cheated when youre done with it. Certainly worth a buy but not a "must have" type game.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Strengths: Great graphics, immersive atmosphere, good story

Weakness: There's some slowdown in places

Thief: Deadly Shadows is a stealth game based in a medevil type setting. You take control of Garrett who is an expert thief and from the storyline, maybe much more. There is a lot to do in this game from just breaking and entering to assassinations. The gameplay is excellent and the graphics and sound do a great job in actually being a part of the gameplay. Everything in the game casts shadows that are important for hiding or being seen. Similar things happen with various sounds that are made by stepping on certain textures. The enemy AI is very good and will use clues to figure out where you might be. It's a very exciting game of cat and mouse that provides plenty of tension.

You are able to fight in the game also, but that is almost a last resort and you will be quickly disposed off if you just try to run into areas without careful planning. If you are into the stealth genre with games like Splinter Cell, you should definitely check out Thief's new take on the genre.

Thief: Deadly Shadows - Xbox

Strengths: Voice Acting, Graphics, Gameplay, AI

Weakness: Some slow downs, need a lot of patience

Thief: Deadly Shadows - Xbox is a nice addition to the Stealth genre on the Xbox (i.e. Spinter Cell). The game puts you in the role of Garrett, the master thief, and your job is to complete a variety of missions by sneaking around and using different items at your disposal.

The game definitely requires a patience and you'll quickly lose if you try to adopt a run-n-gun style. The toughest part of the game is get 100% of the loot on each mision. This provides some replayability for the game as well.

Overall the game is well done and highly recommended for someone looking for a game that doesn't just involve shooting everybody and blowing stuff up!

Thief

Strengths: Brilliant game design

Weakness: Questionable AI, frame rate issues

Thief is easily among the greatest stealth games I've ever played. It's part of a long running (?) PC series but this is the first time it's appeared on a console and the first one I've played. The atomsphere in this game is unrivaled. The levels are huge and opened ended and the game design forces you to use stealth to survive. Being caught is a big deal since you can't fight your way out of many situations. I also loved how you use the darkness as your weapon worked so well. You could use water arrows to put out torches and slip past clueless guards or faze them long enough to make your escape.

It's shortcomings are few but notable. The framerate can turn to mess very easily when a few enemies start chasing or fighting you and the fighting system doesn't work to well, although it really just forces you to rely on stealth.

Back in black.

Strengths: Incredible graphics and sound. Cool theme.

Weakness: Glitches and clunky controls.

Thief: Deadly Shadows for the Xbox is a stealth game were you play a criminal instead of a spy. It is your job to steal the loot out of people's houses and off the people themselves. Thief is basically Splinter Cell set in the Iron Age. Fans of the Splinter Cell games will love Deadly Shadows since they are almost identical in terms of graphics and gameplay. One thing different though is the amount of glitches and framerate problems in Thief. Sometimes the game will start to chug and just freeze up all together. The same problems found in Deus Ex Invisible War are in Thief Deadly Shadows so if you have played that game you know what to expect. That's not to say thief is a bad game though. There is lots of fun to be had and Fans of the Splinter Cell and stealth games in general will have a blast.

Nick this one for a lower price and you'll have...

Strengths: Nice graphics, fun missions

Weakness: Weak AI

This single player game has several fun missions that require you to steal, break and enter, sabotage, and much more. Some of the other tasks, such as picking locks, are interesting as well. The graphics are lovely, and quite impressive. The issue I had most was with the AI, as many of the enemies were just plain daft, and easily tricked. Overall, pick this up if you can get it for a decent price.

The King of Stealth

Strengths: Great physics, Nice graphics with a lot of shadows, Enemy AI tops, Ties up the series

Weakness: Stealth gameplay may not be your bag, a couple of moves and items from previous games not here

Imagine the thrill of sneaking from room to room, carefully picking a lock or snatching loot, jumping from shadow to shadow to avoid any passing eyes, forcing yourself to not make a single noise... Thief: Deadly Shadows captures this idea, and presents it in a polished, fun manner. Gameplay is open to your choices and mistakes, whether you're a careful prowler or more of a gung-ho killer. The AI is adaptive and clever, and will pick up on your mistakes, so you'll often have to change your game plan to adapt to all sorts of different influences.

The graphics are quite nice for an Xbox release, and the audio is an important part of this game, so it's quite nicely detailed. No Xbox Live tie-in, though, which is unfortunately.

Overall, though, this is a fantastic stealth game, one of the best of the genre. It takes some learning, but very little beats the thrill of a well pulled-off heist.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Strengths: Great stealth game, unique, can switch between first and third person persepectives, lots of voice acting, good graphics.

Weakness: The world doesn't seem all that big, framerate problems, bugs, not much replay.

This game along with Tenchu started the whole explosion of stealth games. The great thing about this game is that you sneak up behind the enemies before you go in for the kill. While many action games might be better then Thief, no game captures this particular gameplay mechanic as good. The atmosphere is really good in this game as the environments are very dingy and there are a lot shadows. The one problem is that the game is overly dark and hard to see. You will either have to play this game in a dark room or turn up the brightness of your television. The A.I. is pretty good but could be better. The missions are long but once you master them, there's not much more to do since you already know what to do. If you're looking for a good game that's exclusively stealth, this is the best one.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Strengths: Graphics, storyline, stealth game play, voice acting

Weakness: Too dark on some levels

This game incorporates the best stealth game play that I have played to date. It pits you in the role of a thief that is asked to perform some daring burglaries. The voice acting is exceptional and the graphics are also great for an aging game.

The drawback I encountered was that on some levels, the lighting is very poor, causing disorientation and eventual capture.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Strengths: Awesome game

Weakness: 1 Bad bug on hardest difficulty...

This game is fabulous. I love the Thief series--you can be stealthy or attempt to run around and just murder all the guards. It's kind of open ended in that sense, and the graphics and lighting are awesome. The downside is the horrible bug. The bug is that if you play on Hardest Difficulty when you save it, it reverts you to normal. That made me very sad.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Strengths: graphics, theme, game play

Weakness: controls

Im not one for stealth games, but when I read the previews to this game I jsut had to get it and see what it was all about. I like the concept to this game. This game was made well but I had trouble with the controls. This game is not for those that like to action adventure. Yes you are able to fight in order to get out of situations but that is not what is intended in this game. Two fights and you will most likely be dead. The focus is on stealth and staying in the shadows. This is a good game for stealth game enthusiasts.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Strengths: Awesome graphics and gameplay.

Weakness: Occasional framerate issues.

Prepare to be immersed in this video games graphics, sound and gameplay missions! The stealth/action storyline is such a welcome change, the settings and detail are phenomenal. There is so much to explore and find in each level, definitely has me hooked! The open-ended play make this game a must buy.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

There are many things in this world that people strive to be called and there are just as many that we strive not to be called, and one of the very worst things a person can be labeled as is a thief. However, as you’ll soon find out, quite a little bit of “fantasy” fun can be had participating in said crime, as you assume the role of the legendary thief, Garrett. For those of you in the...

Thief: Deadly Shadows (xbox)

In the years since Looking Glass created the stealth genre, it's gravitated more towards action, with Splinter Cell, Hitman, and Tenchu always leaving the option, however small, for a guns blazing scenario. Thief: Deadly Shadows, however, is not stealth action. The pace is gradual--so gradual, in fact, that if I hadn't been reviewing this game, I probably would have given up after a few sessions....

Thief: Deadly Shadows (xbox)

Among the many rules and bits of wisdom handed down at game reviewing university, one of the most important is this: Never, ever admit ignorance. As a game reviewer, your job is to be an unquestionable authority, a minor diety whose sacrosanct opinion is the result of mighty deliberation and profound insight. So I'm going to start this review off on the wrong foot by mentioning that I've never...
