Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Classic Metroid action! You've gotta love SAMUS IN ACTION

Weakness: Still a little clunky in terms of story line.

Outstanding video/audio action game for GBA/GBSP.
Lots of variation in the price and availability, so use PriceGrabber or look for a local sale at Target or BestBuy.
Must consider getting the Nintendo Guide (yeah, another $20) to get the most action/enjoyment. The codes and help are worth the price. This game will be a long-time player for the SP, I have no doubt. We enjoyed a borrowed copy enough to want one NOW -- fortunately this website had a good price listed....

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Play control is 100x better than the original. The story is more involved. The game is longer. The extended storyline explains a lot of Samus' history before Metroid Prime.

Weakness: The game was quite short. Save points do not recharge your power. It is therefore feasible that you may accidently save with very little power left and get stuck in a hard area.

Metroid: Zero Mission is a remake of the original Metroid for the 8-bit Nintendo. The enhanced graphics, sound, and play control make this game a joy for people who have completed the original Metroid, or people who are new to the series. Zero Mission's story line fills in a lot of blanks about Samus' history for players who may only be familiar with Metroid Prime. This game is excellent! I coudln't put it down once I started playing. This leads me to my chief complaint: despite adding new areas not in the original Metroid, the game can be completed in 10-15 hours. And that includes spending time looking for secrets.

Despite the length, it is definitely worth the play. Also, once you solve the game, you can load back into your save game and it will let you know how many secrets are left to find in each area on your map screen. This gives you more reason to play after winning.

My second complaint is that, true to the original, you have to worry a LOT about your power. In Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime, you get a full health tank when you reload. In the original Metroid, you just started at (I think) 30 when you typed in the "save" code.

In Zero Mission, you start with whatever you had. So... DON'T SAVE IF YOU ARE ALMOST DEAD! You may find that you have "trapped" yourself. Too litle power to defeat the enemies near your save point before getting more health. Take caution.

Those are really my only two complaints. Overall, the game is quite excellent and a worthy buy if you are into the Metroid series at all.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: One of the best GBA games. Controls well, great exploration... a worthy entry in an amazing series.

Weakness: Shortish length.

Everyone knows Metroid. It's a classic game series that focuses on exploration over action, but there's still plenty of action to be found. Hardcore gamers point to Super Metroid as one of the best games of all time, and Zero Mission feels like a continuation of it. The story is just a retelling of Metroid 1, with some fun bits added on to the end, so newcomers won't feel at all lost... not like Metroid's about story anyway. Controls are simplified enough to work on the GBA, graphics are on par with SM, and the sound is worth plugging in some headphones.

The most important thing to remember here is that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Very few things in gaming equal the thrill of exploring the planet Zebes, even with the game's direction to make sure that you always know where the next important game-advancing thing is. You'll feel great looking for every last missile upgrade, and feel even better when you find them. Even though the game can be completed pretty quickly, you'll want to play again on Hard mode, then a few more times to improve your time. And for those classic gamers, beating the game unlocks the original Metroid in its entirety. Why get classic NES Metroid when it's here for free, along with one of the best GBA games available?

Don't pass this one up.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Graphics, Gameplay

Weakness: A bit short

Zero Mission is a remake of the original Metroid and what a remake it is. The game brings players back to the planet Zebes where players must wipe out the invading space pirates. The story is admittedly second to the gameplay, but still respectable. The graphics are great -- everything is vivid and well animated which brings things to life. The sound is good as well with some remixed music from the original game and some original tunes rounding out the soundtrack. The gameplay is fantastic as this is the Metroid we've all come to know and love. It's action adventure at its very best and fans of 2D action games will absolutely love this.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Great remake of the original Metroid with additions, great graphics and sound

Weakness: None apparent

Metroid Zero Mission is a remake of the first Metroid for the NES, with greatly updated graphics and sound from the original, as well as the addition of new areas not in the original game. With the new areas, it adds to the gameplay and makes it an even better game than the original.

For fans of the original Metroid, it's a must-have, and for those looking for some background to Metroid Prime.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Graphics, storyline, controls

Weakness: None

Metroid: Zero Mission is a similar game to others in the series (Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion). It puts you in control of Samus, the bounty hunter, as you explore alien worlds in hopes of eradicating the parasitic metroids. However, this storyline is a bit different as you will find out as you play, things are not always as they seem.

The games controls are flawless and the storyline is very engaging. The graphics are terrific for a handheld: showing vibrant colors and vividly drawn worlds. The creatures are also drawn well and are nostalgic to other Metroid games. Overall, this game is fantastic and definitely worth your money.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Lots of Hidden things to find to Power-Up & increase your weapon supply like all Metroids, no need for passwords like in the original Metroid :D, Top notch graphics & control over your character

Weakness: Short :(

Very much as Resident Evil on the GameCube was Metroid: Zero Mission is a remake of a classic game with a nice twist of everything from the original with some new stuff added in. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed any of the 2D Metroid games, Castlevania SOTN on Playstation or any of the 3 Castlevania games on GBA (not including the NES remake Castlevania on GBA)

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Gameplay is a lot smoother than its original, has better sound and improved graphics, and tells the history of the adventures of Samus

Weakness: The game was a lot shorter than Metroid Fusion or Metroid Prime, it had fewer challenging areas and bosses, and puzzles are a bit more basic and simple than other Metroid games

As an exciting remake of the original Metroid for NES, Metroid: Zero Mission is a game that could never compare to the first version. The new graphics and music add a refreshing change that couldn’t be experienced in its predecessor. Additional areas, challenges, secrets, and a twist at its end make Zero Mission much better than the original. Save points remove the need for codes that were needed to load in the first Metroid, and they allow you to keep yourself at whatever health you were left at last, unlike the original, which only gave you 30 health to begin with every time.

Special cutscenes during the game foreshadow what will happen next and tell a lot to the story so far. The history of Metroid can be told a lot just by playing and finishing the game, and replaying it to unlock pictures for your gallery make it worth playing over and over again, improving your speed each time.

For those who want action and an improved version of the original, Metroid: Zero Mission is definitely a game you should consider buying.

Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA)

Strengths: Great update of an old classic, unlockable Classic Metroid

Weakness: Stealth level

I really enjoyed this game. The retooling of Metroid/Super Metroid is great for the GBA. Graphics and sound are good, and the collectibles are as numerous, fun and frustrating as usual. The coolest feature in my opinion is the unlockable Classic Metroid (so you don't even have to buy the Classic Metroid cartridge, even though I did just to be complete). Any fan of the Metroid franchise should pick up this title. My only problem was with the oddly-placed 'stealth' level, which wasn't really in keeping with the feel of the other Metroid games I have played.

More Metroid! Zero is our Hero!

Strengths: It's Metroid. Excellent graphics and sound.

Weakness: It's short.

Continuing in the same vein of quality as Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero returns to the roots of Metroid and retells the original story with updated graphics and gameplay.

Unlike a lot of recent games, especially on the GBA, which shovel old games together, or have lame updates, Metroid Zero is a true updating and reworking of a classic. It's not just the same old thing. Lots of thought, design, and innovation went into an old property, making it fresh and worth playing whether or not you were around for the original.

Zero Mission is what you would expect from a Metroid product: great gameplay, exploration, tight control, challenges that require a brain, and a real sense of atmosphere. It's a worthy member of a worthy series.

As a bonus, the original NES Metroid is unlockable. This is the same one you could buy as part of the NES Classics series, so it's like getting a game for free!

If you like Metroid at all, what are you waiting for?

Great Metroid action

Strengths: Metroid in two dimensions, makes up for the lacking Fusion

Weakness: STEALTH

This game is the best GBA Metroid because the world isn't divided into stupid sectors. It has a Fusion feel without the awful level design, which pretty much sets it up as a great overall game. The only problem was the stealth sequence at the end, but the sequence is only a few minutes.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Faithful remake of classic Metroid with much improved graphics and a new level

Weakness: Stealth level is a bit frustrating, doesn't really fit with Metroid style.

Zero Mission is a great game for any GBA owner, and perfect for those who want to relive the beginnings of one of Nintendo's classic franchizes. To see just how far the series has come, after completing this game, play the original Metroid, which is included as an unlockable, and compare the two. Zero Mission is an almost exact remake of the original, except for an added level that, for the most part, is great. Toward the end of the game, your suit and weapons are taken away, and you must hide from some rather tough enemies with only a stun pistol at your disposal. This segment was, to me, unenjoyable and out of place. The rest of the added level was quite well done, though. Save for this minor flaw, Zero Mission is a great game and an easy recommendation.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Strengths: Classic Metroid gameplay. 'Nuff said.

Weakness: A bit on the short side.

Super Metroid ranks as one of my favorite games of all time. Metroid Fusion was great but didn't quite stack up. Metroid Zero Mission would lie somewhere between the two, with a return to the classic Planet Zebes and classic Samus suit. As a remake of the original Metroid, Zero Mission features gameplay enhancements from the sequels as well as a longer mission.

For the diehard fan, there are a number of challenges to keep the fun going, including the "Beat the game with only %15 of items" ending. In addition, the original Metroid is an unlockable extra.

I enjoyed this game tremendously, though I did find it to be a bit on the difficult side. Maybe my reflexes are slowing down...

Thank the Gaming Gods for the revival of classic gaming goodness such as Prince of Persia, Rygar and now the Metroid games. Accompanying the release of the stellar Metroid Prime on the GameCube, our beloved Game Boy Advance was treated to a fast-paced 2D-action game connected to Prime’s main story. That’s right, gamers; I’m talking about Metroid Fusion . . . one of the best GBA games...

Metroid Zero Mission

Link has his critics and Mario's reputation is under full-scale attack, but intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran and her Metroid series still seem above the fray, demanding the near-universal respect once afforded to all major Nintendo franchises. Perhaps as a result, Nintendo seems to be doing its best to pump out the Metroid sequels. With the imminent release of Metroid: Zero Mission, the...
