What we've been waiting for

Strengths: -Classic 2D Mario Gameplay -Multiple paths, play as much or little as you choose -Extra collectibles in each stage increase replay value -Entire host of single-cart 2-4 player mini-games

Weakness: -No online Wi-Fi mode -Regular adventure over too quickly

Welcome back Mario, we missed you.

A spiritual sucessor to the original Super Mario Brothers, NSMB combines the original old-school formula with all the great improvments that have been made in the series to date. Mario has added a host of new moves since the last time we saw him in 2D as well as a few new enemies since then. And firepower is once again the end-all be-all of power.

The stages are varied with very few new gimmicks being used more than once, twice at most. Levels progress in challenge in an even fashion. Some may find it easier than past Mario outings, but it seems to be challenging enough without becoming frustrating (I'm looking at you Lost Levels).

I was able to play this through, unlock everything and then turn around and do it again and enjoy it just as much the second time if not more. You'll definitely get your money's worth out of this one.

Mario finally goes back to his old school roots!

Strengths: Great old school side scrolling fun. Lots or stuff to collect means lots of reasons to play levels over and over!

Weakness: It could have been longer but again all the stuff to collect means that the game will hold your attention longer.

This game is great, my roommate bought it yesterday and I have played it almost non-stop yesterday and today from the time he leaves for work untill many hours later. This is very fun and reminds you of good old school gaming. All the 3d beautiful worlds some games have are nice but a game like this is just much more fun! I just ordered a copy for myself and I can't wait for it to come so I can play it all again! :D

ALSO here is a tip for you: Hold L + R + A when selecting a file to play as luigi! :)

A sequel worthy of its title.

Strengths: Remains faithful while adding new elements, doesn't seem like a rehash

Weakness: A bit on the short side for the experienced Mario sidescroller players, must beat a castle or unlock a mushroom house to save

Mario and Luigi are back in an all-new sidescroller. This game features 8 new worlds of levels. It plays more like Super Mario Brothers, but it borrows things from other Mario games, such as the butt stomp from Mario 64 and some enemies from other Mario games.

The game itself is very much like you'd expect it to be. Seasoned Mario vets will feel right at home with this game and blow through it, while some of the younger players may have a bit of difficulty. There's three special coins in each level to collect, and you can redeem them for bonuses from mushroom houses or other things.

The game's not perfect, however. The complete lack of co-op is baffling, as well as the lack of Wi-Fi support. In the wake of Animal Crossing: Wild World, Metroid Prime: Hunters , and Mario Kart DS, you would think that there would be some sort of Wi-Fi functionality here.

While it lasts, it's a very satisfying journey, and you will be picking it up to play it again. Easily one of the top three DS titles out there, and quite possibly the best Mario title in the franchise's history.

New Super Mario Brothers

Strengths: Nod to past SMB titles with enough twists to earn the "New" in the title

Weakness: save feature

I’m almost through world one and it’s been fun so far. The graphics are really good and the developers definitely gave it a feel of the past SMB titles in their layouts and designs.

The stylus/touch screen doesn’t seem to play a huge part in the first world other than being able to tap the extra item (shroom, flower) and make it available for use. I like the feature of being able to carry an extra item, but it could have been incorporated in the buttons leaving out the touch screen element. It’s kind of awkward if you try to use the stylus and me, not wanting to oil up the touch screen, I don’t want to put my thumb on it to release the item. I have to put in an order for those Hori screen protectors soon.

The second map screen is a nice feature which lets you know where you are currently.

The only thing I don’t like so far is the lack of a “save anywhere” feature that was available in most of the previous SMB titles. As it stands now, you have to have a least 5 coins to open up a mushroom house to save. I haven’t figured out any other method to save your game after clearing one area. I suppose you could just close your DS and let it “sleep” but I don’t like leaving my electronics on.

It's been so long since I've went through that area, I don't remember. I also don't have the game anymore once I finished it. You may want to try gamefaqs.com. They'll have all of the hints/techniques you'll need when you get stuck. Good luck.

Welcome Back Mario! A wonderful return to the 2D...

Strengths: Classic side scroller you cannot miss! Good graphics, good music, tons of fun!

Weakness: Mini games are mediocre and fire flower overly powerful.

If you are a fan of the way Mario used to be, you won't be disappointed. Intricately detailed graphics, moderately difficult puzzles and lots of new item upgrades. The game is simple and fun for people of all ages.

Once you start the game, you'll know you're playing a genuine Mario side scroller. The world layout is exactly like Mario 3, you have to complete a level to move onto the next. There are many paths to take and each one brings new surprises. Your goal is to fight through each mini castle and castle stage to save the kidnapped Princess Peach.

There is no tutorial to the game but it's as simple as dash and jump. The first level is easy enough for you to get used to the controls. It's all smooth sailing from there.

So what's the good? This game follows the side scrolling Mario platformer formula and doesn't stray far from it.

What's the bad? Most of the game's boss fights are way too easy. The ability to use the fire flower on most bosses was a surprise to me. The game is generally easy. I'm already at World 6/8 and my play clock is probably around 3 hours. This is including finding the three secret coins in each stage.

While I wanted a more challenging game, this game still deserves a 5 star rating. For platformers this generation, it really doesn't get any better than this. It's a MUST BUY for Mario veterans and amateurs alike.

The New Mario!

Strengths: Great classic feel. Great control. Cool graphics. Cool extra minigames.

Weakness: You can't save whenever you want. This is annoying for some people.

This game is so much fun! This game is a classic with a classic feel. The minigames are an extra bonus and can be really fun. The only downside is that you can't save whenever you want and this may be annoying at times for some people. For some people this game may be short, but still this game is great and I totally recommend this to anyone with a DS!

Best Platformer!

Strengths: Colorful visuals, Controls, Music, Gameplay

Weakness: NONE!

I've been waiting for this super mario game in ages! Finally it came out and it is just what I expected it to be, perfection! You will play again as mario to save princess peach from Bowser. This time, mario has some new moves, a nice 3d engine though still side scrolling, new power ups and more. I like this game a lot, this game alone convinced me to buy a Nintendo DS!

Mario Returns

Strengths: The graphics in this game are fantastic and the control is easy to get the hang of.

Weakness: I have yet to find any.

New Super Mario Bros. is one of the best titles available for the Nintendo DS. The main single-player Mario game should take you about a weekend to complete. There is more when you're done. Mario vs. Luigi turns the game into a one on one race to the finish line, and it's a pretty great time. There are also mini-games for single and multiplayer. All you need is a single game card to set up a multiplayer game. Playing New Super Mario Bros. is like taking a trip down memory lane . New Super Mario Bros. is a must have game for any Nintendo DS owner.

New Super Mario Brothers

Strengths: Great Throwback, Great All Around Platformer,Lots of Replay Value, Great Game

Weakness: A bit on the short side (but that comes with it being a platformer)

From the moment I started the first level, I remembered back to when I was a kid playing Mario Brothers on the NES. I enjoyed the simplistic gameplay then, and I still do now. New Super Mario Bros. is a basic platformer, but can be ranked among the best platformers out there. Everything from the music, to the sound effects, to the boss battles scream Mario. I'd highly reccommend buying this if you are looking for a good game, or just a throwback to your child hood.

A great New Super Mario Bros.

Strengths: Old school 2-D side-scrolling platforming action at its finest.

Weakness: The new power-ups aren't anything to write home about. No Wi-Fi multiplayer.

The ten year-plus wait for a new side-scrolling 2-D Mario Bros. game has been well worth it. With the New Super Mario Bros. comes a reminder of the platforming of the old days. Taking some of the best elements of Super Mario Bros 1 and 3, and Mario 64, Mario is back in a killer new 3-D model in a 2-D world.

If you fondly recall the NES Marios and wish for a throwback, this one is for you.

New SMB

Strengths: Graphics, moves, specials

Weakness: Short, easy

The classic Mario style is back. This game is very fun and easy to pick up. This game reminds you of the original classic Mario Bros. on the NES. It gives great memories. This time, the game is even better and more fun. You get to become a huge Super Mario or become one of the turtles. This game also comes with lots of mini games. The problem is that most of the mini games are from Super Mario 64DS. There are a few new ones. The game is short and easy. I will definitely recommend this game to the fans of Mario. Your kids will love you if you buy this for your kids. They will have lots of fun with this game.

It's me! Mario!

Strengths: classic Mario gameplay

Weakness: bad save system

Mario is back with the classic mario game play. This time there is no flying power up or yoshi, so it has a more tradition mairo game. The level designs are great and easily as good as super mario world or SMB3. My only complain is the save system, which limits your ability to save. This would have been okay for a console game, but not for a portable version.

New Super Mario

Strengths: Brings back great memories, great graphics, and its just so much fun.

Weakness: Is a little easy, but thats what super mario is known for.

Super Mario is one of those few gems that is a must own for every Nintendo DS owner. If you are ready this, own a ds, and have yet to pick this up, do yourself a favor and run to the nearest store and pick it up.

I own tons of video games, and I haven't been able to stay hooked on a game in a very long time. I think the last game I actually played all the way through was Pokemon Blue, and I am getting close to finishing Super Mario. I will give it a 9/10

Strengths: Classic Mario gameplay, beautiful graphics. FUN!

It's Mario at his best. Classic, fun gameplay that you used to love as a kid! :)

Nice graphics update, nostalgic music spiced up with modern twists, easy to pick up gameplay.

Pick this one up.

Mario Returns To The Sidescrolling World.

Strengths: New Super Mario Bros. is an easy to pick up and play game with fantastic graphics.

Weakness: New Super Mario Bros. is a bit on the short side.

It is Super Mario Bros. but with all 3D rendered models and new tricks thrown in. There is the single player Mario game and Mario VS Luigi. There are mini games for single and multiplayer. Only one game card is needed for multiplayer. New Super Mario Bros. is one of the best titles for the Nintendo DS. This is a game that should be in every Nintendo DS collection.

A Brave New Game

Strengths: Amazing new gameplay, excellent new modes, wide variety of gameplay styles, return to old school

Weakness: Besides the main campaign, there's not much to do, multiplayer is lacking and unvaried, minigames are recycled from Super Mario 64 DS

New Super Mario Bros. is the latest creation from Nintendo that implements new features into classic gameplay elements from previous Mario games. This new combination works wonders for the franchise, making this one of the top five best games for the DS system. I would highly recommend this game to anyone and everyone who owns a DS. Go, now, and buy it!

Welcome back, Mario!

Strengths: Great graphics and gameplay. Lots of fun.

Weakness: Short and too easy. Lacks depth. Stupid save system.

Old school Mario gaming returns in this re-imagining of previous Mario games. Taking Mario back to his roots, but doing so with updated graphics, sounds, and control is a terrific idea and Nintendo doesn't drop the ball.

Simply put, this is a fun game to play and captures everything that was great about NES/SNES Mario games. If you ever liked it before, you'll like it now.

The save system is irritating, until you complete the game. You can only save at set points, every few levels. You can always put the DS into sleep mode, but if you're a few levels along and want to play another DS game, you're out of luck. Annoying, stupid design decision.

The minigames are great, and a wonderful addition (although they're not recycled for me, since I skipped Mario's previous DS title).

Overall, a great game for the DS, hampered only by it's lack of difficulty and depth. Nintendo should be commended for bringing Mario back with style. Next time, hopefully, they won't forget that good games should continue to challenge and reward, long after they're over.

A great fun game for kids.

Strengths: Very good game with excellent Graphics.

Weakness: None

Super Mario Brothers is one of my son's favorite games. He likes it so much. this game is fun as I expect it to be. The game is easy. The turtle shell and mini mushroom helps you uncover hidden areas.

New Super Mario Bros (DS)

Strengths: Graphics and color

Weakness: Graphics and color

I wouldn't buy again. Slow startup run time and after completing several levels then losing all your men one has to start at the beginning very annoying. Desperately need a level restart.

NEW Super Mario Bros.

Someone once said that everything old shall be new again. Well, somebody must have gotten an early copy of the New Super Mario Bros. game for the DS because quite frankly I haven't had so much fun in 2006. New Mario Bros. takes place in the very familiar 2D world of side-scrolling platformers. Once again, Bowzer has kidnapped Princess Peach and once again are Italian plumber friend is up to his...
