Killing bugs...in outer space.

Strengths: Fun action, good graphics, gameplay...and pretty solid story for an action title.

Weakness: Although fun, as you go through the levels, it could get a bit repetitive and slightly less enthralling as you're on your 40th...50th try.

Crimson Sea 2 is a sci-fi action game that fuses a bit of rpg flavor, a fairly deep gameplay/battle system, and some wicked fun and cool destroy all combos action sequences all on top. And for the most part, it's very fun and a success.

In fact, for the first time, there isn't too much to be negative about, except for maybe that you progress through beating levels...and oh boy, there are quite a few of them, 60 or so I believe, as I haven't even been able to even beat the game yet, as other games stole my attention. But it was fun while it lasted, especially if you can find it used or on the cheap, the game is a definite hidden gem and I'm bound to get back to it later.

Alright, now on to the positives, very good to excellent graphics, although not the best out there that the PS2 has to offer, it fills the need. The characters look good and the animations are pretty crisp...and did I mention that the action is very pleasing to the eye (cue COMBO attacks!). While the story is basic, it's done well and manages to hold my attention at least for the time I played it, which is a feat in itself for the often cliched aliens attack, hero(es) must go and save humanity plotline. But altough story is fairly good, action is the reason one would buy this game, right?

And the action is quite sweet indeed. Well, one shouldn't be surprised since the game was developed by Koei, infamous for the Dynasty Warriors franchise, the king of 3D hack and slash w/ minor RPG, and for the most part this game plays and feels the same, almost, except you're in space, and you're mowing down aliens that look like big, bigger, and biggest bugs and insects...but the cool part is that you can switch between using guns and a sword/spear like weapon...and once you get deeper into the game's battle system and able to pull off the many combos...well, let's just say it's very satisfying and fun to do so over and over...and surprisingly, it does not get old, at least not for awhile.

Okay, I'm running long, but let's sum it up...if you like games like Dynasty Warriors or action/adventure games that reward you learning the gameplay mechanics...and especially if you like those type of games with a bit of sci-fi flavor, than you're be very impressed with Crimson Sea 2. Probably as a whole, not as polished as the more well-known titles, but in the end, it's a solid title that delivers the goods. Can't complain too much about that.

Crimson Sea

Strengths: Good graphics and effects. Solid action and added multiplayer is great! Solid Frame-rate.

Weakness: Dull music, simple level design. Storyline is boring.

This is an awesome hack and slash game. It can provide many hours of mindless fighting. There is a good variety of missions which is good as the levels are very simple. The multiplayer and different playable characters is great to have in this game. The lack of voice means you must read all the poorly written dialog, or just skip to the action. Overall the graphics, animation and effects are good, the enemy "The Menace" has several really cool designs.
