This must be the year of the button-masher. Everywhere you turn there's a new beat-'em-up or a new hack-n-slash. Spartan: Total Warrior, the first console title from the makers of the Total War series, is another one of those slash-heavy games. Good hack n' slash game
Strengths: Subject matter i.e. spartans and gladiators is pretty cool, fighting against hordes of enemies, objectives within the level keeps the game purposeful
Weakness: simple attack system, graphics are blocky
Don't be deceived, although they share similar subject matters Spartan Total Warrior is not a copy of God of War. It is a simple hack n'slash in the same category as the Dynasty Warriors games, just replace ancient China and foot soldiers with ancient Greece and roman soldiers.
Basically the levels are about fighting your way through armies of roman soldiers to reach an enemy boss of some type. Although they may not be very interesting or original levels are sprinkled with a few objectives, adding a little variety to the gameplay.
Some of the weaknesses is that the fighting does get repetitive. There aren't many attack moves so you'll end up pressing the same buttons over and over similar to Dynasty Warriors. Another weakness is the average, borderline poor graphics. Characters are very blocky, everything is a shaded in a drab brown, and the designs aren't creative.
