Good Game but tough controlls

Strengths: Graphics are great, lots of game modes

Weakness: Game controlls

I would recommend this game to hockey fans and those willing to learn the new controlls. I think by trying to make the game more customized and more in depth controller functions they've actually made it a lot harder to use the basic pass, shoot, check options. However it is a fun game that I'm sure will get easier to control after time.

Good Graphics, Seems too easy

Strengths: Fun to play, good graphics for 2006 year. Really Fun to play.

Weakness: Almost too easy, right off the bat.

The game is good and the graphics are really good, given the year. This was the first game I bought and I really enjoyed it. However, the gameplay was almost too easy, I was able to easily win right off the bat without any trouble.

Shot just missed the net.

Strengths: Actual NHL teams and players. Fun gameplay.

Weakness: Non-intuitive controllers. Fairly weak "next-gen" graphics.

I wasn't really impressed the first time I popped this game in my 360. The graphics were ok but nothing eye-popping. The controls were not completely obvious either. I enjoy sports games where it's obvious what controls do what. I found myself constantly shooting when I meant to pass. None of that mattered after the first few minutes of my first game. After awhile I was just plain having fun. I would have liked more hockey hits but I found myself shouting everytime I made a goal. There are a lot of extras in this game that I don't think I'll ever use. One of those is the crease control for the goalie. To me that's one of those things that just complicates game play without adding any real fun. All in all, this isn't a bad hockey game and could be pretty fun with multiple players.

Good budget hockey if you need one

Strengths: Price now is around $10, plays well, multiplayer is good

Weakness: Graphics and everything look exactly like the old Xbox version... not much of a difference.

I've always enjoyed this series over the EA version. Even though this game is not much difference from the original Xbox version. Gameplay is good, even though graphics are not this gen. For $10, it is a good deal but pony up another $10 to get 2K7. This way you will get newer rosters.

Same Great NHL game, different port

Strengths: franchise mode, gameplay

Weakness: graphics

If you were expecting a complete overhaul for the Xbox 360, NHL 2K6 is not the game that will blow you away. The graphics are decent, but definitely not next generation. The gameplay is solid and the franchise is very deep. The game has recently dropped in price, but you might want to wait until NHL 2K7 to get your next generation hockey fix. Overall it is fun and the best hockey game out there, but I would wait till the graphics are on the same level as the gameplay.

NHL 2K6

Strengths: Good start for the NHL 2K series on the 360

Weakness: Not a whole lot different from the XBox and PS2 versions

NHL 2K6 was an early 360 title that did more than most of the other early Sports games to advance the game into the next generation. Of course the graphics were improved as expected. Other than that, the game is much the same as the PS2 and Xbox versions. However, this is an improvement over some of the other sports games which are missing features in their 360 debuts from the older console versions. There is one new gameplay element whereby you can control the goalie to make saves. Overall this is an excellent first NHL 2K game for the 360 and now that NHL 2K7 is out this game can be found cheap - $20 or less at most places.

A Great Hockey Game for Causal Gamers

Strengths: Easy controls, special goalie view, updated rosters and announcers pronounce the names correctly, no lag in online play.

Weakness: Graphics are weak, stick control could be better.

Overall, a fun hockey game for the causal gamer. It is not as good as its EA counterpart, but it is cheaper in price, which is a plus. The game is great for causal hockey fans who don't want to sit down and have to read a novel to figure out how to perform a move. The computer AI is relatively easy to beat once you get the hang of it, but as I state above, the game is great to play with your buddies.

Already outdated, but still a good play.

Strengths: Great grahics, a lot of things to unlock.

Weakness: A lot of options to work your way through.

This game is now pretty outdated, though it is only a year old. This is, of course, a result of the studio's decision to release sports games every year, with very few changes.

On its own, this game is very nice. The graphics are great, the control is easy to pick up, just so long as you aren't stuck on some older control scheme. Things move fast, and you can easily get lost in all of the options and gameplay modes.

That can actually be seen as one of its bad points. There is a lot to try and make your way through, and all of the different options can be very confusing at first. But, once you've figured it out, this game should be well worth the relatively low cost.

A Review of NHL 2K6 (Xbox 360)

Strengths: Budget, Full Featured, Great Gameplay

Weakness: Outdated to 2007

I picked this up as a budget bin item for about $10 which is amazing for an Xbox 360 game. NHL 2K6 is packed full of features with so many game modes that you can hardly cover them all. NHL 2K6 also has stellar graphics and easy to manage controls that will be conducive to any avid game player out there. The only real disadvantage is the outdated 2006 rosters - if you can live with that this is an amazing game.

NHL 2K6 for Xbox 360

Strengths: Smooth play, excellent animation, puck has realistic slapping sound.

Weakness: Instructions are not helpful, players freeze and puck issues.

Far better than the old version. Players move effortlessly and realistically. Shreds of ice fly when skater stops. The animation is definately much improved, even the crowd looks and responds more convincingly.

Of all the hockey games on the xbox 360 this is the...

Strengths: Same great gameplay Improved graphics

Weakness: graphics are not improved enough buggy, especially online play goalie AI sometimes weak

I love playing hockey games so the fact that this is the only one for the 360 made this an easy choice. I prefer the EA hockey games every year, but after trying this I like some of the differences. The game is played a little bit more realistically, and at points to slow. The biggest change the makers should make in the actualy gameplay would be the goalie AI. All of the goalies seem to have a problem with high shots and this gets frustrating. Leaving the gameplay, the game as a whole felt rushed and the bugs that you will deal with when playing online will confirm this. Clean the bugs and improve the AI and I might be back next year for more, but there will be at least one more game to contend with.

Best Hockey Video Game

Strengths: Excellent graphics and smooth control

This is the best hockey video game available right now. The XBox version played and looked great. This game has been refined in nearly all aspects. The polished graphics are great to watch, especially on an HDTV. The control is even smoother than the XBox version. This is the closest you can get to playing in an NHL game.

NHL 2K6

Strengths: Solid gameplay, On-the-fly coaching controls, new goalie control is a blast

Weakness: Only slightly improved graphics, Mini-games can get annoying

All in all, NHL 2K6 is a solid game. Ever since EA changed the gameplay of their once dominating NHL series in 2003, 2K has picked up the slack to make the most realistic on-the-ice experience. This year delivers a brand new on-the-fly coaching system, where you can change the formation of your offensive and defensive players to respond to different situations that may arise with the tap of the D-pad. The new goalie control is outstanding. It has been vastly improved from the regular Xbox version. If you so choose to, you can take control of the goaltender at any point, giving you a 3rd person view of the action. When a shot is made, time slows down briefly and the object is the get your cursor over the target (where the puck is headed). However, for the $60 price tag, 2K didn't seem to take the time to really improve the graphics for the next-gen version, like they did with their NBA title. Though the arenas look fantastic, as do the ice effects, the players and fans look almost exactly like the Xbox version. Only with an HD-TV will you notice some small improvments, it seems.

NHL 2K6

Last year was a really crappy time for hockey fans, seeing as there was no season that year. People wondered how one of the best sports around could not have a season. Thankfully this year hockey is back in full force which is good for fans of the sport as well as gamers. Since the Xbox 360 just launched it is only appropriate that sports fans get their NHL fix, so 2K Sports has just released...
