good on next gen???

Strengths: great graphics, unbelivable gameplay, NO MORE JOHN MADDEN!! explosive tackles.

Weakness: there are some features that are missing from the original xbox verison including NFL superstar.

Madden is the power house in video game football; and for at least the next 5 or more years it is the only one since EA is the only video game maker with rights to the NFL license. I am overall disappointed in maddens loss of features; but online play should not be disappointing. Graphics are amazing and game play makes you fell like you are on the field. Annoying john madden wont be running his mouth all game; instead there are a local announcers for each stadium. If you are a hardcore madden fan you will not be disappointed. Overall i give madden a 8.5 out of 10.

Madden 06

Strengths: graphics of player and stadium detail are great

Weakness: options, letter and word size font

there is no play review, letter, plays, words, and clock are very small, no franchise options like on prior games, prior games have better options, i was saddly dissapointed. i suggest waiting for next years madden.

Only if you want to play football

Strengths: Visually amazing, smooth gamplay, easier running and passing game

Weakness: Every aspect of the single player experience is non existant.

I love this game. I just wanted to put that out there because there are quite a few issues with this game. First the franchise mode is very dumbed downed compared to previous versions, the create a fan, player, superstar modes are alson absent. All this being said the game is still great for those who just wanna play, Running and passing is solid, online is great, but could be better. The gameplay is very different than the current gen counterparts, and NFL 2K fans should like this game a bit more. All and all get this fantastic game.

Madden NFL 06

Strengths: Good graphics

Weakness: Not many game modes, less than regular xbox version

Madden 06 has very good graphics on the 360 version, the game play is also good, but it's missing a lot of modes from the xbox version, and doesn't have any new stuff. If you want to play football on the 360, this is your only option, but sadly, its been scaled down. Hopefully next year's version will have it all.

this is suppose to be madden?

Strengths: the players have realistic bodies and they really get dirty when they're in the rain and the snow.

Weakness: there are alot of things in this game that you are use to having in madden that your not going to get the biggest is no challenges what!?!? yes if they say its a fumble then you cant argue

other than the fact you cant you cant make challenges, or creat players or teams or even stadiums, oh and the players do not have the tattoos that the real player have, Thats sorta a major take away from the game when your playing with someone like vick who has alot of "body art" so actually i would probably advise to take a minor hit from graphics and get this game on x box and not on 360 because they really took away from this game rather than added to it sadly

A $15-20 GAME RIGHT NOW

Strengths: GRAFICS-THAT'S IT?????

Weakness: LOST ALOT IN MY OPINION-FRANCHISE MODE SHORT OF MOST OF PAST FRAN. MODES, REPLAY CHALLENGES, TOO MUCH FUMBLES WHEN IT'S A PASS UNLESS U R THE COM., LETTERS TOO SMALL, DOES NOT TOTALLY FEEL LIKE IT HASW

SINCE IT TOOK OVER THE RIGHTS FOR THE NFL LAST YR I FIGURED IT WOULD FAIL--SO THOSE WHO LOVE TO PLAY FOOTBALL R STUCK PLAYING THIS TITLE...WHY? NEED COMPETITION TO SUCCEED IN BEING #1 SORRY THIS GAME IS ONLY WORTH $15-20 AT MOST. WHERE IS ESPN WHEN YOU NEED THEM AT LEAST THEIR $20 GAME WAS LIKE GOLD!!!! I AM SURPRISED MADDEN PUT HIS NAME ON THIS GAME MAYBE THAT'S WHY HE'S NOT DOING THE COMMENTARY IN THIS ONE??!! ALOT MISSING FOR $60 I WOULD RENT B4 BUYING.. I USED TO PLAY 5-6 HOURS A DAY AND DO ALL I COULD WITH THE GAME ITS NOT FUN RIGHT NOW

Madden NFL 06 for Xbox 360

Strengths: Graphics

Weakness: All you have is great graphics and less features!

Not much different then the old version, it's been scaled down to exclude mini camp and other features in exchange for great graphics. The QB vision is bad and not only do you have to worry about the defenders, you now have to aim a cone at the receivers.

Great Graphics but missing a lot

Strengths: Graphics

Weakness: No fair-game play mode on X-Box Live, no challenges, lacking franchise mode

I play this game a lot, but that's probably because football is my favorite video game sport to play. The graphics are great, but it is missing a lot of typical Madden features.

Missing:
No fair-game play mode on X-Box Live
Cannot Challenge plays
Lacking franchise mode (no training camp)
Create-a-player

With the football season over I would not purchase this game now. But, if you have to play football on the XBOX 360 now, then I would recommend it.

Hopefully EA adds the missing features in next years game.

Good, but I wanted more

Strengths: Great Graphics Excellent Sound No madden speaking

Weakness: Not as deep as the other system versions Seems a little rushed

I've always loved the Madden series so I was excited to get this when I finally got the 360. Graphics are great and only get me excited to see future installments. The problems come when comparing it directly to the other xbox's version. The franchise gives you much less, and I really don't understand why all of the good aspects of the lesser versions didn't port to this. All in all it is fun to play and definately improved graphics (not as much of a jump as I expected, but still better than the xbox). If you don't already own the xbox version and need to play this even after the football season ends...get this. Otherwise, wait for next year and hopefully all of the depth from other versions will return to accompany the visuals that we will now expect from this day forward.

The New Football

Strengths: Incredible graphics, smooth animations, same Madden gameplay

Weakness: Many modes missing and some bugs

This is the best looking football game by far, which shouldn't be surprising with the XBox 360. The players look incredible, though a little exagerated. The game plays just like the others in the series. On the down side, the training drills are gone and there are some bugs.

Great for the Casual NFL Fan

Strengths: Impressive graphics and sound. Solid controls. Fairly easy to pick up and play, even for players who are new to the Madden series or haven't played a Madden game in a while.

Weakness: Some menus are a little confusing. Save/load system is somewhat non-intuitive. Might not have all the features that a hardcore football fan would expect

I haven't played a Madden game since the Super NES/Genesis games, but when I picked up an Xbox 360, I figured I would I would give Madden NFL 06 a shot. The core gameplay is pretty familiar, with the most notable addition being the quarterback "field of vision" feature, which lets the player focus the QB's vision on a particular area. If you pass to a receiver in your field of vision, you're more likely to complete the pass. Otherwise you have a greater chance of a missed pass or an interception. Generally speaking, if you've played any of the Madden games, you'll have a pretty easy time jumping into this one and using all of the basic controls.

As in previous Madden games, you can toggle among all your players to choose which one to control. This is really handy, since it lets you choose exactly how much control you want in certain situations. For example, once you pass the ball, you can leave the receiver under automatic control, letting the AI make its best effort to catch the ball, or you can take control of the receiver and try to shake off a defender or jump or dive for the ball. An inexperienced player is probably better off letting the computer-controlled receiver do his thing, but a skilled player might have more success by controlling the receiver's every action.

The graphics are pretty solid, but you'll only really notice the impressive detail during the up-close cutscenes that play before the snap and after certain plays, or during an instant replay. During the regular gameplay, the graphics are nice but they don't really scream "next-gen". The audio is also good, with realistic chatter between the players before and after each play, and sound effects which really add some impact to each hit. There's music on the menus and during the breaks between each quarter, but it's fairly forgettable. The live commentary is pretty solid and sounds natural.

As a casual football fan, I find the game very enjoyable. However, I've read a lot of reviews complaining about various features missing from the game, so if you're a serious football fan, you may want to keep this in mind. If, like me, you're not as hardcore, you probably won't miss the features in question, such as being able to challenge a call. I've also heard that the franchise mode is a little weak, but I tend to just play through each game in the schedule without worrying about the management aspects or other such things, so I have no complaints there. The only things I would complain about are the menus and the save/load system. Some of the menus are a little confusing, and it's not always clear where to go to accomplish what you want. The save/load system is also somewhat confusing. I had played the first game in Franchise Mode and saved my game. When I came back later, it claimed that I had no saved franchise. Either the game hadn't actually saved, or I was missing something on the load screen. Since I was only one game in, I just restarted the franchise. Since then I haven't had any issues, but it's still worth noting.

In the end, this game is great for the casual football fan. If you're seriously into football, however, you may want to wait for Madden 07 and see if the new features in that version satisfy your needs better than this game does. For everybody else, the solid graphics, sound, controls, and features make this game easy to recommend.

Madden 2006

Strengths: Graphics, sound

Weakness: Missing features, spotty game play

Madden football has been my favorite football franchise for many years so I was very excited when it was going to be released on the Xbox 360. Much to my disappointment, the game did not live up to the hype or the standard that EA puts into its beloved football franchise.

The greatest thing about the next generation version of Madden is, of course, the graphics. Although they are not as sharp as the early screenshots months before the game’s release, the graphics are still very impressive. The sound is also very impressive. Instead of using Al Michaels and John Madden to call the game, a local or regional announcer calls the game and actually adds some excitement, especially on big plays.
Although I miss Madden’s clichés and Al Michaels commentary, I hope they decide to use this feature in their upcoming versions of the game. An even better suggestion would be to let Madden and Al Michaels only have commentary on Monday (or now Sunday) night games on the schedule.

The biggest problem I have with this game is that it is missing some key features. Most notably, there are no replay challenges. As many times as this game gets calls wrong, the challenge was always there to offset it and get it right. Sadly, there have been many times when I have played this version of the game where close calls have gone the other team’s way and I have no recourse but to just accept it.

Another notable issue I found is on sideline catches by the receiver. It is very hard to catch the ball inbounds when running full speed towards the sideline and it seems as if there is a glitch in the game where if you catch the ball in bounds, but to close to the sideline, the receiver usually takes an extra step sending him out of bounds instead of having responsive control of the receiver and taking the ball up the field. This is very apparent on swing passes to the halfback.

With phenomenal graphics and sound, I would recommend this game, but some of the bugs and missing features make this version of Madden more average than next-generation.

Madden NFL 06

When I heard I was getting another version of Madden football this year I was thinking to myself great, I have already reviewed it twice this year for two different platforms. What can this game offer to me that I haven’t already played to death yet? Well, once I opened up the game and put it in my Xbox 360 I pretty much had to eat my words as I was really taken back. Unlike some of the other...
