The Matrix

The Matrix broke my head, along with much of its viewers. Aside from having stunning effects and crazy action, the plot and setting and whole idea behind the movie was simply great. I cannot recall how many times I have seen this movie parodied in some way, from the slow-mo bullets, to the red pill blue pill decision, The Matrix will endure as one of Hollywood's greatest films. Unfortunately the other movies did not come close to the excellence of the first.

The Matrix

It's so passe now, but it almost hard to remember how groundbreaking this film was when it opened. . .it's not aging well due to overexposure, but it was a damn fine entry to the sci-fi genre. . .and Fishburne as Morpheus is the real star. . .

The Matrix

A spectacular movie with an outstanding cast. I never get tired of watching The Matrix, as there is always something new, exciting, and intriguing with every viewing. Keanu Reeves succeeded in establishing Neo as a new hero figure. He brought him to life, gave him all of the important qualities necessary to move the movie along and did it in a unique and sophisticated way. This movie will live on through it's groundbreaking special effects, it's alluring storyline, and the visual experience which embodies the essence of that which is the Matrix.

The Matrix

Strengths: The action and special effects were 5star flicks.

Weakness: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

WOW,we give the Matrix our highest rating. Our favorite part was when Neo and Smith are fighting in the hallway and Neo dicovers his powers and defeats Smith. The best special effect seen was when they escape by going in the elevator and the shaft exploded. The agents are so annoying and simaler and ugly.

The Matrix

I assume we are only rating the first Matrix, right? The first Matrix was brilliant! ... because it left unanswered questions. Unfortunately when they try to answer the questions, the story is very unrealizable and - dare I say - puerile and absurd. The story was an afterthought to try to somehow explain why reality would be a huge networked simulation. The story needs alot of work. See the first movie though for its uniqueness.

The Matrix

A movie I could watch over and over again. The deep plot underlying it is one to ponder, and its ties to philosophy, theology, and religion is ingenius. There are so many little things to notice that you didn't catch the first time. The special effects are nice, the acting is okay, but what really gets me is that little idea that everything around you is a dream world, and the connections to ancient cultures and theories. Excellent, intelligent film.

The Matrix

I cannot even begin to describe how truly amazing this film is. A far cry from the tripe awful sequels that spawned from what could only be described as a great mind maze of pure genius. "The Matrix" is completely different to the sci-fi pre-decessor genre and there was truly no film before that reached the cinematic heights of parody - bullet-time (Slow-motion scenes) "Shrek", The Centre Park commercials etc, special effects and even storytelling. It hails many questions about our minds and our constant reliance of computers, the world we live in and the many questions that still haven't been answered.

The Matrix

I'll tell you, this movie is incredibly deep, intelligent, awesome, fun-to-watch, interconnected, mind-tweaking, and insanely thought-out this marvel of a movie actually is. In fact, don't even TRY to understand the whole thing the first time you watch it. It isn't physically POSSIBLE. This movie has so much freakin' content that even the people who claim that I'm wrong, and that they DO get it the first time, are in fact wrong. They don't get it. In fact, I'd bet even I don't get the whole entire thing, in spite of the fact that I've seen it at least ten times. There are whole websites devoted to simply the PHILOSOPHY implied by The Matrix. To be fair, critics have an obligation to be mean and lie and make fun of every single movie. (ok, a bit of an exaggeration). This is why even the most accommidating critics simply musn't be letting their true feelings show through. Either that, or they're asses. To complement the impossible-to-comment-on, blaringly incredible storyline, comes a revolution in visual effects. Larry and Andy have freakin' fired the "bar" out of a cannon. The technique that "bullet-time", from the first movie, suggests, is fully realized in the second installment. Namely, a "virtual camera." The scene is completely mapped out on a computer, in three dimensions, allowing absolutely any angle and motion of the view to be manifested. In the "burly brawl," a flesh-and-blood camera would have been torn to pieces if it had actually gone through the motions suggested by the virtual camera. Tight, fast turns and swings in slow motion would have required even tighter, faster turns and swings in real-time, to which the real camera is eternally bound. The series was originally designed to be one single story, but it was way too long to put together into one movie. Dude, this movie would have been INCREDIBLE if it was ANIMATED! The story alone would have made it a blockbuster. No, more! Visual effects that were actually invented FOR THIS MOVIE make it stunning to watch. When the second, or especially third, movie is over, you're body will be jittering from adrenaline and sore, and you will have had chills at least two or three times. Your mind will race and scour every frame and you will be addicted to it. Watching it for the second time, you will actually be able to watch it.

The Matrix

For those who didn't follow the movie trilogy... It's hard to make a movie about Christ (THE Anointed ONE) and explain the human/spiritual condition of the world without getting ridiculed. NEO is a play on words. If you switch the letters around, it's ONE. Thus, once "Mr. Anderson" became fully enlightened, he only referred to himself as NEO (The ONE). If you don't get the reference to Jesus, right there, it's because it's a reference to Buddah (THE Enlightened ONE). They linked these 2 together as the same person for a reason. That's why the trilogy is flooded with quotes from Buddah and the Bible. In Reloaded, before NEO met Seriph (who is an angel, by the way), there were 2 shrines shown. One for Jesus and one for Buddah. I can point so many things out, like NEO becoming ONE with TRINITY after his arrival in ZION. The metaphors go on and on. The Watchowski Brothers were very slick with the writing and direction of this trilogy. I call this trilogy, Excellent.

The Matrix

Without a doubt the best action flick ever made. It still impresses me to watch the fight scenes in this one. The second and third installments have nothing on this one. This film seems much more singular and focused than its sequels. The use of bullet time photography has been endlessly parodied and the characters have been duplicated time and again. This is the action movie that every other action movie wishes it could be.

The Matrix

'This is dangerous, open up your mind feel the shellshock' So the Prodigy tune 'Mindfields' preoclaims as Trinity approaches Neo. Theoretically plausible in many ways. Introducing Eastern philosophy to a broadly Western audience (there is no spoon....then you will see that it is not the spoon that bends, only yourself) merging it with Western philosophical ideas of the 'One'. There's alot of impressive special effects, but there is as much substance as there is style to this film. I could start to pick holes in the theory to this film, but that would be padantic and unfair. All in all this film deserves to be a classic and I would recommend it to anyone

The Matrix

This movie is the ultimate role model for other Sci-Fi movies. It has a cool storyline which is out of this world. I mean the machines trap humans in computers to generate energy, and in order to do that they make the computer-generated dreamworld called the matrix, and they are making the humans believe that this dreamworld is real. I mean wow, i would never come up with an idea like that. The graphics alone is a pioneer of its kind. The bullet timing effect is famous since this movie came out. The fight scenes are very well choreographed. And Keanu Reeves' acting is up a notch, so what more can i say!

This is what helped dvd players sell, I don't know which was better the story or the style (which every director and their mother copied off of) everything was well put together beautifully, the cinematography iwas so inovative it was a pure work of geinus. The story line may be hard to follow for some, but if you like to think a little bit instead of having everything right in front of you.. you'll love this story. Reloaded is just as good, but unfortunately thats where they should have stopped because revolutions seemed rushed and leaves the audience feeling empty. well at least me.

The Matrix

One of the best overall sci-fi movies ever made. With minor exceptions the acting was magnificent. The best of course being the sinister Mr. Smith. His delivery of lines was surreal and eerie. The Effects, cinematography, script and pace were thoroughly well designed and executed. To find flaws I would have to nitpick about a few inconsistencies in the philosphical ideas expressed in the movie along with some minor contraditcions but that could have all been part of the overall scope of the movies creators. This movie gained wide appeal from movie goers and garnered fantastic reviews by critics. A rarity among so many less than stellar sci-fi movies over the years and just as rare among very big budget and hyped movies. The movie had style, atmosphere, suspense, and a real sense of adventure among the participants. A much better overall movie than Dark City which I also thoroughly enjoyed. The Matrix however had crisp dialogue and much more engrossing visuals. The difference between the two to me is that Dark City is a movie you see once or twice and enjoy very much then put away. The Matrix however, you can watch over and over and still find it thought provoking and entertaining. Unique in concept and presentation this movie is a must see for fans of suspense, sci-fi, action as well as drama. Fantastic!

The Matrix

This movie bites. I don't get what everyone loves about it. I've seen much better movies get panned. Keanu Reeves can't act, did everyone just forget that fact? My favorite line from the blonde chick: "It's my way or the highway" said with such conviction you just know she's the producer's niece. The science is nonexistant in this "scifi" flick. That's supposed to be a hovercraft they're driving around in? I think the writer just thought the word "hovercraft" sounded cool. Special effects can't turn a bad movie into a good movie. How about a plot? It would have helped if it had a plot.

I generally liked the movie, but it overemphasized the CG. Nice eye candy, and it was good, but I believe that CG should support the story, not overshadow it. The themes were pretty neat (been done, but neat). I'm glad Keanu Reeves didn't talk too much--he just didn't fit in, he just seemed kind of like he was ripped straight from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and forgot to drop the character!

The Matrix

Well, it's time once again for my favorite Rate It All pasttime: singling out morons! And the award goes to...ClassicTVFan47! What kind of neo-fascist are you? You have a seriously unhealthy obsession with profanity that might do well by some professional counseling. Did the guy who stole your lunch money say "F*ck" every time he did it? What's the hang up, the association? I think I've sufficiently handled the subject of profanity in my comments on "Swearing," so anyone interested should look that up under my comments. I decided to read a few of your comments after I saw your rating of Jackass or as you so eloquently state, The Donkey Show. What a mental midget. And I thought I could let most of it slide until I saw your comments on The Matrix. "A boring, tedius, pessimsitic sci-fi film that is terribly overrated, the Matrix combines objectionable content with a plot that creeps you out. Star Trek is the best sci-fi franchise out there, so watch the hundreds of hours of brilliant sci-fi than this boring movie." What exactly could be so objectionable about the content of The Matrix? Oh no, a movie about a resistance movement that involves violence! Is nothing sacred? And how effective would a story about an entire population under total mind control be if it wasn't creepy and disturbing? I've never seen anyone villify a serial killer by dressing them up in a bunny suit and having them snuggle with babies, so learn to deal. But then it hit me. After further inspection, I learned that you have a certain affinity for things like Al Gore and liberalism. That's when I pieced together just how "objectionable" The Matrix could be to such a willing automaton who fears becoming unplugged from the neo-socialist machine moreso than the plague. The fact that this movie portrays, negatively, such a startling parallel to the Communist utopia of mass ignorance that neo-socialists like yourself so fuzzily dream about was probably a little less than comfortable for a good little soldier like you.

This has to be one of the most cleverly thought up sci-fi movies of all time (perhaps maybe star wars), the storyline was great and the special effects are in a class of their own. I can't wait till the sequel, the only probelm I had with the movie was the goofy "love" story between Neo and Trinity.....what a laugh.

The Matrix

A boring, tedius, pessimsitic sci-fi film that is terribly overrated, the Matrix combines objectionable content with a plot that creeps you out. Star Trek is the best sci-fi franchise out there, so watch the hundreds of hours of brilliant sci-fi than this boring movie.

The Matrix

This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. Although the plot left certain questions, that doesn't defeat the fact that it is a film that requires you to use your mind and in depth analysis. It could be a possible situation we might be faced with in the future. It also made a cinematic effect that could awe audiences for ages.<br>I might add that the film also provided a lot of in depth context more to the man vs. machine situation. To Philosophy for example... the Allegory of the Cave and Light by Plato could be parallelised to the situation of the Matrix to the Real World. In terms of Christian Theology, we know that Neo had come to save the world according to the Oracle. Neo means new but if you unscramble the letters it forms "One". Why did they name one character "Trinity"? And there is one bastard that betrayed them?... hm...

The Matrix

the matrix is contrived from start to finish, but it looks cool. like 'dark city', it is an opportunity for the paranoiacs to be right. why was 'star trek' the only show that ever did that correctly? "no, i'm not nuts, there really ARE squid-like machines eating my brains." oh.....kay. i guess the twilight zone worked, too.

The Matrix

One of the weirdest and best movies you may ever see. The Matrix combines awesome special effects, a great story line, and spectacular acting all into one of the best Sci-Fi films ever. This is a must see for any fans of the unusual. Don't leave the movie store without it.

The Matrix

Good movie. Although Keanue Reeves isn't one of my favorite actors. He may have been perfect for the part, but his performance is weak. Otherwise, THE MATRIX is destined to become a classic of the genre.

The Matrix

This movie would get five stars from me if it was original but it's just a mishmash of modern sc-fi stories most notibly the works of William Gibson and unpublished novel 'The Morpheus Files: HYPERCITY' that was doing the rounds of US publishing houses in the mid nineties. Now there may be nothing new under the sun but I and many of my friends find it hard to enjoy a film where almost every scene reminds me of a novel or short story that not only did it it first but also much much better.

The Matrix

A too long videoclip devoid of any sense of humour, acting or cinematography. Someone went berserk with computer FX, but didn't get them right. I've seen computer games that had better graphics and textures. A lot of computer games, really. No plot to speak of, no script. NOT a movie;

The Matrix

I know I'm going to take some flack on this one, but this movie just isn't that great. While the movie has surprisingly good visual effects, action sequences, and hand to hand combat, that is generally the depth of the movie's good attributes. The plot is one in which I am genuinely interested because of its post apocyliptic futuristic setting, and the fact that man created his own dimise. However, the simple fact is that the entire story is left with absolutely no character development, and relatively bad cliched dialogue. Yes, the characters all seem to have mysterious pasts, and the viewer wants to know more, but the view does not get to know enough about the characters to care about their predicament or their eventual outcome. For example, the doublecross: one character doublecrosses the rest, but with no real reason or at least none that can be discerned by the audience other than that he is unhappy with his surroundings. Enough depth is not given to this characters reasons for becoming a traitor to make it seem real. The villans are well crafted in that they are all powerful, don't care about the pleas of the protagonists, and make relatively few arrogant mistakes, but they have absolutely no depth due to their machine like nature. Unfortunately, this machine like shrowd is destroyed when one agent begins describing his philosophy for human life, and again when two agents run from the all powerful "One." Additionally, Don't put a great deal of stock in the theory that energy can be created by feeding humans dead humans. On a large scale, energy conservation does not allow this to occur. Due to this movie's box office grosses, and its popular appeal, a sequel is almost inevitable, and perhaps it will endeavor to explain some of the points that were left shallow in the first. However, due to the Matrix's hollow beginnings and characters, the sequel will most certainly be a disappointment as well. This is an excellent kids movie other than the exceeding amount of violence, and should have been aimed at a younger audience. The comic book like feel that the writers were trying to achieve is definitly present in the movie though, which probably makes this a palatable picture for comic book fans. This movie probably has potential though in the same way that Star Wars did. This movie has a good theme and setting. It has a place from which it can begin, and develop its characters to hopefully more complete movie personas. This film is predictable without question, and the ending is probably given away a little to soon by the oracle scene, but I will not fault its predictability because it should be. Dependent upon its trailors and movie reviews, I may see its sequel at the theater, but I will definitely rent it.

The Matrix

While I believe this is a good movie, it puts practically all it's emphasis on the special effects which attracts most of this younger generation. Whether special effects are the barometer of the greatness of a movie is a matter of personal opinion, but I found the storyline extremely thin, and the ending questionable. The acting, the casting is adequate enough, and there is no question one can lose themselves in the movie, but still a lot of great SC/FI movies are rated below this one. No way it is #1.

The Matrix

Graet underlining message within a cool action sci-fi movie. Very deep. I really enjoyed seeing such dazzling effects combined with a powerful enthrawling story. I shudder to think about the mostly crap acting that dropped this otherwise great movie to a good. Too bad. I understand they had to get an A-list cast to get the kids in the theater but come on! Keanu and a model to break in! Sheesh. If you want a beautiful story or mind melting special effects please see this film. If you love horrible acting,"I know kung-fu." highly recommended.

The Matrix

The "Matrix" is one of the coolest movies ever. Try watching it w/ the sound down and Crystal Method's "Las Vegas" over it. Amazing...almost Pink Floyd- "Wizard of Oz". Beautiful visual images and a story line that doesn't really overwhelm. I loved it and I thought Keanu Reeves was excellent! Truely one of the greats.

The Matrix

very few times does a film come along that changes not only the way film is made, but also to finally find a very intertaining film, and yet it is equally intelligent. It does not play down for anyone, and many times has you really thinking about the "what if". This, combined with an incredible cast, makes for a "classic", ironically, it's in a class all by it's self.

The Matrix

I think that this is the best movie by far for sci-fi genre. If you have not yet seen the Matrix SEE IT,NOW!!! I can barely contain my excitment for the next two releases that will be coming out. Matrix 2 is due out in 2002, and Matrix 3 is due out 2003. You can bet I will be standing in line for the first showing!!!

The Matrix

A qualitative step ahead. Computer graphics and suspense make it look real. The leading role is played by Keanu Reeves, which really doesn't make a lot of sense from the point of view of an aesthetic person. Other roles played fine, including the negative characters.
